Is it possible to simply drop the panel hardware of a series 3 onto a disco chassis, engine and running gear? Would things generally align?

The problem is that the Land Rover body will either be 9" too long or 12" too short in the rear wheel arches.

You will also need significant engineering certification to ensure that the dash panel and windscreen frame in particular meets the ADR current at the time of the Disco manufacture. Seat belts anchorages will also need to meet similar ADR, although Defender anchorages will likely comply.

You will likely lose the SIII recessed grill treatment making it like a SIII V8/Isuzu appearance. You will also have to fit wheel arch extensions.

In fact you will have an easier time if you were to use a Range Rover chassis of a similar age as the SIII, which makes the SIII compliant with ADR. You can still use your Disco 200/300Tdi TD5 diesel etc.

Why not buy a perentie when they come out at auction?

Cheers for that. Perentie would be ideal.

Here's a nice Series on an extended range rover chassis, I have the link somewhere..............Yes a nice conversion, but it's in one of the Arabian states and not subject to ADR. So not much use to Jimmy.
