Teena and i headed off over Easter first stop just out side Chinchilla and off to Carnarvon Gorge Sunday (great spot).
Monday next stop St George a night on the river another top spot Tuesday started with breaky and next stop Gold coast .
Big surprise for me when the Tdi had other ideas and stop with a big bang 5 K's short of Canungra.
Tarv you should show you folks this pic before it's to late ,Convince them to get another v8 or a push bike it be more reliable .https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/05/1835.jpg

Not a good ending to the trip. Think Philco has a couple 200's spare.

hmm,
need to know what caused this,
i've got one of these also,

last time i put a rod out the side it was in a 49 vanguard.
it had nothing to do with speed,
it just didn't like 95mph on geelong road,
dad wasn't interested in helping at 3 am either.

thankfully greg, yours let go closer to home than canarvon gorge!!!!!!!!

Bloody hell Greg whats the go.

Obviously it gave you no signs of the pending doom. If Teena needs a car I have the Great Wall ute sitting here doing nothing for a while.??

Yes not a great end to a get away but as Harry said we were close to home .
I do know that it is common for the tdi to slip number 3 con rod bearing
my guess would be that it slipped and blocked the oil journal as the journal was badly pitted.
Coursing it to seize and pull the piston past the bore in turn sending the rod out the side .or the tdi is just a POS .
I did find the con rod,pin and lots of bits all over the road .
No landrover diesel is going back in already cut the engine mounts off and
will be welding in the v8 one's today .
But i do have plenty of tdi bits on ebay just P***** off that i spent all that money on reconditioning the head 20 000k ago .

Greg

What a bummer - feel for you.
At least you know where to grab an engine from! Bugger all the work involved though.
