I have owned this freelander since new and at the moment am having trouble with the auto box it will start in 1st and rev to 3k then jump very hard into 4th gear. when it warms up after 20 mins of driving i need to turn it off to reset it then it will run fine with just a harsh jolt between gears every now and then.I have had the vehicle to maroochydore landrover , british offroad and the local auto trans dealer they all can tell me it reads fault codes on there computers but no one can tell me how to fix it , i have spent over $700.00 on diagnostic testing all i have to show for it is a hand full of fault codes on paper. This is only the 999th problem this landy has had so i expect more. Can anyone tell me how to fix thix box ??
cheers:)

Have you had transmission problems before?
Most V6 autos suffered shift solenoid issues early on but if you haven't, then maybe they're hitting you now :(.

Sound a bit like a speed sensor fault. What faults are you getting?

cheers:)Snap. Had that before. First time low auto oil as it was leaking. Ended up naffing up the auto and needing a replacement. Felt like someone had driven into me, on each gear change. Also had it happen when the 2x barrel electrical connectors came loose. They're at the front of the auto, on the battery side. Could also be a sensor or solenoid playing up, but clearing all fault codes then getting it to do the faulty bump gear change then viewing the fault codes again would be my method to work it out. When these connectors come apart, you get about 6 to 8 codes from memory.

If you choose to check the auto oil level, then make sure you don't undo the incorrect bolt to see the level. The one on the rear of the auto holds the reverse gear stuff together, and it will fall off inside if that’s undone. Hence you'll loose reverse gear. Both the filler and level plug are on the bottom of the auto. I did just type that. Landyzone has a write up on how to check the level. Also you could do a resistance check on the auto, to make sure sensors and solenoids are measuring correctly. This is done by disconnecting the barrel connectors and measuring the ohms for the sensors and solenoids.
