I have recently purchased a 1996 130. The rear brakes squeal. I have read other threads in relation to the problem and it appears that there is no one answer to the problem. Is this correct. I have tried the paste on the back of the pad which didnt work. Do I have to keep trying different ideas I find in other threads or does some one have an answer.

I am getting desperate I cant sneek home form the pub without the boss hearing me come up the road. At this rate I am going to have to walk to the pub or come home early.

Thanks in advance for any ideas

Sounds like the type of brake pad material. You could try another brand.

Did you chamfer the leading and trailing edges of the pad?

When you put the brake squeal deadener material on the back of the pads did you let it dry?

Hope that helps because it is a real pain not only to get rid of the sound but to put up with it.

I had my brakes inspected and the rear rotors and pads replaced on my 96 110 ute.
They started to squeal so i took it back and they stopped the squeal but said it takes a bit for them all to bed in.
After it started again I waited a month then took it back.
Turns out they had over heated and glazed because the front ones, although nearly at 90%, were cactus and doing almost nothing.
They found this out by clamping the rear lines and going for a drive.
They guys said that mine will start to squeal again once they over heat if I don't get the fronts attended to.
I am not saying your problem is the same as my problem...but it might be?
It is worth taking it into a brake place and have them check it out.

I've had the same thing on my '94 110 single cab since they stopped putting asbestos in the pads. I find turning the shims behind the pads around, so that the hole is forward instead of back, or vice-versa, stops the squealing. After a "while" it might come back, so I just swap the shim around again. It's worth a try seeing as it doesn't cost anything.
