HELP !

- need info on what to buy to clear/reset/turn off warning lights for the ABS and TC on my '95 Classic... - Already got the EAS sorted with a Kicker..

- Bonus if it sorts out the SRS warning light...

Or else its pulling the dash apart and removing globes.

Are you wanting to buy one or to have your car checked? If the former, you need a full blown Faultmate.

Don't *want* to buy one,,, but for me it would be the right thing to do  Already own an EAS Kicker which works well.

Checking out the BlackBox website leaves me none the wiser (go on, insert appropriate comment...) as it seems everything except EAS begins with the P38.

Anyone know if Hawkeye or any other generic diagnostic tool can read/re-set the rest of my on-board ECU's ? - Mainly concerned with troubleshooting my ABS and TC, SRS would be nice, and anything else is a bonus!

Hi Chris and James

Having sold a few of these for RRC's (and D1's), hopefully I can shed some light on this for you blokes.

There is no single-vehicle licence option for RRC (or D1), all licences (SMxxx) are multi-vehicle.

For the ABS/TC you need:

software licence SM019 - WABCO C Type ABS/TC
LD026 - Blue Early ASB Lead

For EAS:

software lic SM025 - Lucas EAS
LD024 - Classic EAS and 14CUX Lead

For Engine Management:

software lic SM006 - Lucas Hotwire 14CUX
LD024 - Classic EAS and 14CUX Lead

For SRS Air Bag:

software lic SM011 - TRW MPS Air Bag
LD025 - Green Early Air Bag LEad

When used with a RRC, the FaultMate MSV-2 requires an external power supply like the LD006 (Cig lighter) or LD007 (battery clip).

Standalone operation using the LCD screen of a FaultMate MSV-2 Extreme is not supported for RRC and D1. It must be used with a serial connection to a PC or laptop.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Paul.

Am I correct in interpreting your reply as... "Buy a Faultmate for around $979 and pay a software licence for each ECU, along with their individual connecting cables/plugs ???"

How much is each licence ?

It seems that the last Classics were not only test-beds for new(er) technology, they're also orphans regarding support. !:(

No, I just gave you the bill of materials to buy the components for a multi-vehicle diagnostics setup for the RRC. $979 sounds like the RRP for a single-vehicle P38 or Disco2 kit.

You can get all the hardware you need direct from BBS or a distributor for less than $400 (Nano and leads) or $500 (Extreme and leads).

check https://www.blackbox-solutions.com/shop/

Licences RRP at BBS for approx:
SM006 $111
SM011 $111
SM019 $116
SM025 $169

You could shop aroud to see if a distributor can get you better pricing and/or quicker delivery.

You will also need a USB-Serial adapter which you can get from BBS, a distributor, Dick Smith/JayCar or eBay.

If Classics were orphans for support, why would BBS make licences are hardware available for them?

As far as I can tell, the only reason you don't see single-vehicle packages listed for the RRC and D1 on the BBS site is that there is no way to lock a licence to the VIN of the vehicle as can be done on later models that have a central ECU talking to the others.

Cheers
Paul.

thanks paul, just had a look at black box site and found all the leads we require, it looks like the faultmate will work and the bonus is it can be upgraded for other vehicles down the track. chris

I conatacted BBS, and here's a summary of the answer regarding whats needed...

HW016 Faultmate MSV-2 Nano with built in VCI 1 @ 279.72 AUD

LD025 Green Early Airbag Light Duty Lead @ 22.20 AUD

LD026 Blue Early ABS Light Duty Lead @ 22.20 AUD

LD032 Serial connection lead (Null modem cable) @ 4.44 AUD

AC002 USB to RS232 @ 22.20 - if the laptop only has USB ports and not a serial...

SM011 TRW MPS (TYPE 1) Airbag @ 100.64 AUD

SM019 WABCO C TYPE (CLASSIC RR) ABS/ETC @ 115.44 AUD

SM006 LUCAS HOTWIRE (14CUX) @ 111.00 AUD
(The air suspension lead included in the Kicker also connects to the 14CUX

Which means $226.40 for engine & brakes software, plus $279 for the Nano, plus a laptop if you don't have a spare.

Add a few leads and $600 vanishes, (plus $400 to 700 for cheepo laptop...)

Two Gurus say 'Nano plus requisite licences/leads into your laptop' ... Thus my Quest endeth...

And my EAS Kicker shall rattle around in her glovebox, lonely and without a soulmate, with or without faults..... :wasntme:
