This is the second time I have been amazed by what a big influence the battery condition has on the behavior of my D2 V8. Even though on both occasions the symptoms were different it wasn't until battery completely died that I even guessed it was crook.

1st time. Gearbox warning lights came on and went into limp mode. Go figure. All else normal. New battery a few months later problem fixed.

This time it just took a fraction longer to start and the air bag warning lit and chimed then went away. Still seemed to crank over just fine though. Did that for a few weeks - all else ok including second battery solenoid coming in as normal. Then as it got worse even had trouble with LPG system.

Funny thing is though on both occasions I woul have taken some convincing it was battery.

Just how long are your batteries lasting? I.E., how many months/years between the time you had probs with the first one and this one? A decent one should serve you for around 3-5 years.
If they are failing fast, the something else might be the cause?

5 years each.

Well that isn't so bad then!

It is interesting that the battery causes such weird behaviour to other components of the car though.

Gone are the days where slow cranking and dim headlights are the symptoms of a crook batto. Sadly it's also not really an intuitive place to start fault tracing.

It does seem that the odd warning light is the only precurser to complete deadness with calcium batteries,,

they were both calciums Ian???

First one was factory second an n70 I think. Don't know whether the new one is calcium. It's just a huge truck battery. Will have a look.

Supercharge MF31-931 is the spec for a D2. The next one below is an N87LZ.
