Just got a new battery for the wife's 90 (300Tdi) the RACQ man told me I would need at least 1000CCA!!!!! When I pointed to the existing battery (600CCA), he asked how long it had been on. When I told him 5 years with no problems, he muttered about battery technology in the UK being more advanced than over here!!!!
Went to Supacheap and got a 700CCA (just to be on the safe side) for $195.
I have no idea where the RACQ man got the idea that you would need 1000CCA for a 2.5ltr Turbo Diesel. The new Range Rover (4.5Ltr V8 Diesel) only need 950CCA.

I recently bought a 950CCA from Battery World for $279 (this thread (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/p38a-range-rover/118471-becm-waking-up-dead-battery.html#post1390854)). It has been excellent.

3 months ago I bought a 750 CCA century N70 something model battery from supercheap for about $180 as a special to replace the same model century I put in the car in 2002.
Maybe I just got a good one, but when it died, it didn't go down over a few days, it just died. Not even enough juice to unlock the car via remote.
I ran a 500 or 600 CCA as dual battery setup for about 5 years as well so I don't know if that added life to my main starter battery.

So $225 seems a good price for a 950CCA lead/calcium.

He probably just assumed that a large 4WD that performs as well as the LR does on and off the road must have a huge diesel engine under the bonnet. :p
