Just trying to determine if my ABS light coming on and staying on is normal.

Anytime I start the car my ABS dash light comes on and will stay on indefinitely until I start to drive at which point it will remain illuminated for
about 30sec.

Is this normal?

Yes that normal. I think it stays on until a certain speed is attained and it's done it's self test.

Mine is a bit different to that. The light will only remain on for about 3/4 seconds and then go off. Even if the engine isn't running and i just switch the ignition to on. Then, when i start the engine the light comes on again for about 3/4 seconds and then goes off.
Mine is a MY11 and i think that they may have changed the ABS module around the MY10 mark so mine may be different to yours.? Not completely sure about that though.

Cheers,
Chris

From the Puma workshop manual:

it is necessary to drive the vehicle above a speed of 20 km/h (13 mile/h) in order to extinguish the ABS warning lamp.

On my 2009 Puma the abs light will stay on until I go above 13mph where it then extinguishes after no fault is found on the self test.

The 11MY Puma's have a Siemens ABS unit. All Defenders (Puma, Td5) with ABS prior to this have the Wabco-D unit and it is designed to turn the light off once a set speed has been attained. Don't know about the Siemens unit.

I've managed to drive more than a kilometre without the ABS light going off as I haven't gone fast enough to complete the speed check for the Wabco-D unit.
