G day

I was hoping for some help with my drivers window in my 03 disco 2. It won't go up or down, it is currently up but will move only a few mm up and down.

I did a quick search and thought it would be the usual problem of the weld breaking. So i stripped the covers off the door, the dust seal was still in place.
And gave the window a go, and what do you know it worked (up and down 20 times to make sure). Also had a quick look around and all the welds etc looked to be in order.

Put all the trim back on and the problem is back, exactly the same as before. At this stage I have the rubber seal that runs along the top of the trim off as I thought this may be the problem. But no go still won't move.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nathan

Pull the door trim off again and check the window regulator. I had the same problem with the front passenger window only going down 10 cm and then back up. When I had a look at mine the window regulator was knackered.

Unusual for it to work after the trim comes off so I can only suggest you check again.

By the way I think it's the window regulator (Also have a D2 - 03).

It might be one of the spot welds on the regulator arm is broken and the gear quadrant is slightly displaced.

Would that mean that the glass is out of whack. It seems the window glass is not coming up straight and even. It is up hard in one corner and down a few mm in the other?

Sounds like one of the nylon wheels (or blocks on some replacement units) at the end of the "cross arms" on the regulator is broken/jammed. Maybe get someone to straighten up the glass as you try to lower the window.
It is easiest to unbolt the glass from the regulator if its about 3/4 of the way down. I removed mine that was stuck fully down by unbolting the guide rail and motor then unbolting the glass from the regulator. A friend recently removed his that was stuck fully up following a motor failure by drilling a couple of holes to access the bolts that connect the glass to the regulator.

Dido experience. I still believe the regulator needs replacing.

I had his, the same day my turbo died actually..

was a bit of a pain to get the regulator assy out, but I am pretty impatient..
my front side nylon wheel was broken, removed it and replaced with brass roller using a small tac weld to keep in place.

Thanks guys, off to the mechanic he reckons $100 to $180 to fix, depending whether it is the whole unit or just broken wheels. I am thinking of just getting it replaced while he has it out so it is good for the long term.

The window regulator costs anywhere between $40 - $115 and whatever price you place on your time.

I replaced my own and the door latch at the same time as both were broken.

If it's anything less than $180 that would be a good price but expect to pay $180 (or more).

Did you buy the brass roller or make it? If you bought it, where from please?
