The first of what I hope to be only a few stupid questions.
Picked up the D4 today. Speed reading  the manual I noticed the global opening function which works as advertised (Unlock button for 3 seconds). Global closing however, does not (lock button, hold down).
Enlightenment please?

Suspected as much. I bet they canned it for "safety" reasons. Nanny state!

I manged to get my Global Close to work but there are two setting in the CCF file you need to adjust with something like the faultmate.
One is something like Global Close =Yes. This was already set to Yes.
The other is something like Enable RF Closing or something like that. tells it to listen for the signal from the key. this is the one that I changed and made it work.
I raised an article on this way back and there were many responses, seems to work most places except Australia, theory being not allowed because of Australian ADR rules.
This irked me for along time until I got it to work, never used it since.

I specifically asked for my original dealer to enable this function, and also asked Graeme Cooper Land Rover for this function at the service. Both gave me the answer that this cannot be done for Australian spec vehicles. However someone in another post on this forum mentioned a dealer in South Queensland who can do it. You'll need to do a search to find it.

O.K. .... I'll ask the burning question .... what the hell is "Global opening" ?... you push the button on your remote and all the doors on all the D4s in the world "open" ????
I know it must be something simple but the phrase "global opening" is a new one on me.... help me out guys....

:D Global opening is when all the windows on the (specific, single) car open. Global close is when all the windows on the (specific, single) car close.
Global open is done by pressing and holding the "unlock" button on the remote control. Global close is usually done by pressing and holding the "lock" button the remote control.
Mind you, the Audi Q7 has both global open and close enabled, and I would think that needs to conform to ADR as well...

Thanks .... thought it might be that sort of thing .... :)
I used to work at Qantas Valet parking and I do know that this feature is enabled on most top line Mercs, Porsches, Maserati & Ferraris, and as you say - they have to comply with ADRs.

Hi All,
I have a 2013 Disco 4 TDV 6 that also did not have global closing activated I took it back to the dealer Bruce Lynton Land Rover on the Gold Coast on its first checkup and they activated it without any issues. :)

On both my 2010 and 2011 D4s the global locking has worked, maybe the dealer has activated it for me?
But to global lock it I have to press the button twice, ie double lock it and hold the button down on the second press, then after a few seconds it puts up any open windows too. I think it is a very handy option and have used it on several occasions.

Global opening and closing works on MY12 too.
If I disconnect the battery, global won't work until I reset the one touch closing of the windows.

I've changed the CCF file settings for global closing via remote, but it only closes the rear windows not the front two. Any ideas?

Ron.....the front two are closed already then....hehe.....just kidding.
When you have all windows up, and then hold down (for a few seconds) the unlock button....do all windows go down ?

Yes, they do all 4 go down, just on closing only the rear ones close.

Fixed - found the answer on the disco3/4 UK site. Required a reset of the front windows. All good now.
DISCO4.COM - View topic - D4 Global Closing from remote key - Does it work for you. (http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic46456.html?highlight=global+closing&start=30)
Thanks

Yep....and as I mentioned earlier in the thread you need to reset if you disconnect the battery. It needs to learn again.
Weird.

Hi all, I have programmed I few d4's for global closing using auto logic At Davis performance. If any is close by we are more than happy to set it for you at a minimal cost.
