Hey guys, after changing the ZF pipes yesterday, I BADLY need to replace the filter and ATF in my V8. my question is:
is this an easy job for myself (regarding the filter and mess) or should I pay someone to service it? Also, any recommendations on the Central Coast to do this?
Cheers.
Phil
Also, a big shout out for Philip A and his help yesterday with some excellent advice

Have to drop the exhaust (usually) and the gear box cross member, to drop the pan and change the filter, can be easy or sometimes it can be hard, esp. the X-member, Regards Frank.

it can be done i did it in my drivway,. yes u have to drop the y section of the exhaust and drop the cross member( i just bashed it down with hammer just enough to get the pan out),
the hardest part i found was bolting the y section back to the manifolds,
i was quoted $400 to do mine in brisbane, so thats why i did it myself for under $150
good luck with it its not that messy eaither, i drained mine over night.

Ok, I decided to get it done at the garage but 2 weird things:
1. There is no filter in mine, is ghat normal (94 es v8)
2. It only cost $106 including a flush

Phil, I can assure you there is a filter in your ZF. It comes in a kit from Gary or others along with a gasket and the needed O rings.
If an Auto trans place has told you no filter do not go there.
The filter is actually a flat stainless Filter "screen" so maybe the auto place is splitting hairs. If the screen gets blocked by clutch debris it is bye bye transmission. ( and yours will be fairly blocked going by the debris in the drain bowl.)

Just rung them and their "master book" says there is no filter, I've said I'll give him the part no. To order it for me and then fit it. I get a bit fed up of so called experts not knowing their stuff!

Can anyone give me the type of filter so I can tell them what to order? I can find examples of it but no parts no.
Cheers

filter range rover ZF | eBay (http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html?_nkw=filter+range+rover+ZF+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=filtr+range+rover+ZF&_rdc=1hil)
Phil , if you want to see what they look like, and if you enter "filter Range Rover ZF" to ebay you will see that the Classic and 38A are the same. The Disco is the same.
They are also fitted to BMWs with ZF trans and all cars with ZF 4HP22 transmissions.

If the garage you are getting it done at had to check the master book to see if a ZF has a filter or not :(....I would run a mile. :p
