Well, after working pretty solidly on my 98 400,00kms Disco for a few weeks and getting it on the road via blue slip I finally found today why the last owner was trying to sell it for parts.
The blooming glove box light's out! I can understand his frustration - I also find body parts harder to work on than mechanical problems.
How does that light come out. The last time i skewed my neck around and under I had to be pulled out by a passing Toyota driver. Imagine the embarassment. And on an even more deeply technical note - in drive with my foot on the brake (hard!) my torque converter allows me to get close to 2,000 revs. Have I got a problem or is that normal for Discos?

thats about the stall point for the landy autos stock TC.

so long as you have no shuddering on shifts under power and the fluid is a good colour shes all good.

Thanks Dave
Would that be common among turbo diesels to allow the revs to climb early to reduce soot?

nope, its to get the power up so the TC can do its magic without bogging the engine down.

if you want to dive into it deeply I'm more than happy to but have you read the primer on the grey box of evil?

if you've read through that thread and swill want more let me know and I'll do what I can.

You lever it out with a screwdriver like all the other interior lights from memory.
