Hi,
Excuse me if this is a stupid question - but I'm on my first Rover engine rebuild.
What type and size of socket do I need to remove the big end bearing caps? I presume it is a star socket of some kind, but the only ones I can find on the internet are 12 lug types that look nothing like the bolts on my bearing caps which have round heads with lots of small vertical lugs.
Are sockets readily available from places like Repco or Autopro?

Regards,
Paul

It's a standard twelve point socket, that same type you find in most socket sets and if 300Tdi can't recall the head size ATM.

15mm 12 point for bigend nuts
13mm 12 point for main bolts

I think

the red makes the memory a little hazy...

you could always use some viceys or a stilson I guess?

You don't specify which engine.

I assume that's for a 200/300Tdi. Aren't V8s UNF?

Thanks Guys - I failed to mention that my engine is a 3.9 V8.

I should have been aware enough to try a standard socket on them before asking for help here - but as the studs had round heads I assumed that a standard socket would not work.

Apologies for being dense.

Paul

Blame the red and a good dose of having just pulled set of tdi big ends the weekend before... tunnel vision (blurred)
