Hi all, just wondering how much can my alternater take, (original) i believe.
I run a pair of 100w spotties, have just upgraded my head light bulbs to 100/125w, and a amp for subwoofer for some sound quality as the 4" and 6" are not much crop.
Nothing seems to suffer but is running all of these putting to much stress on a standard alternater. I do have duel batteries with pirana thingy.

the avatar looks luxobargish..

so its got at least a 60 amp alternator in it..

if your batteries are good and you dont just do short drives with everythin turned on you should be ok.

alternators will run at 100% output all day long if need be and most will do about 120% amps output for short periods but at reduced voltage.

Brett, D1's have a 100A alt, MORE than enough for what you are doing, as Dave says though try and avoid short runs, especially at night with the stereo doofing...:D

Thanks for all your replys, but Gary could you please give me more info on the traxide head light upgrade relay, is that on the spotties or head lights? Also where does one purchas and what is the advantage, thanks

It uses the coloumn switch to activate relays rather than driving the lights directly.

gives you 3 or 4 advantages.

1. the switch life is extended (and the relays are cheaper to replace if you manage to burn one out)
2. you get a higher voltage at the lights which means they're brighter.
3. it makes emergency patching and diagnostics easier once you have them in and running right.
4. If you dont already have them if you use the right kinds of relays it makes wiring in spotties a cinch.

heres the website.
