In my younger days I would frequent there on work duties. I was a radio technical officer with Telecom and looked after the "East West" micro-wave system.
As I recall the Eyre Bird observatory was quite peaceful; you were alone. It also had the tallest tower on the run between Kal and the border. I would always climb to the top and take in the views.
The scenery is low level scrub, which is taller than what is found around the plain adjacent to the highway. If traveling around those parts I would recommend going to the cliffs at Caiguna. There is also the caves at Cocklebiddy.
Cheers

Nothing much to add to Rons assessment JC, stayed there a couple of times, flew a big kite once. Been many years. Peaceful rings a bell!
Last time some pro fishos were coming in with crays from memory.. interesting to watch.
Definately worth a stop, as is Cocklebiddy and many of the other caves across the Nullabor. Amazing karst system.

Was their in the early eighties, found a large green glass and a plastic fishing float on the beach which i still have, caught the old telegraph wires on the boss's tow bar by mistake and pulled a couple a Ks of the stuff for miles, only after he ran out of lower gears and got out to see what was wrong, and then a group of us decided to drive to cockelbbidy along the beach about 20ks and used 64lts of fuel in my shorty L/C the beach was deep seaweed and sand, redline 1-2 low the whole way, other wise it was great but that was many moons ago and the memory changes things ..Gary
