Landcruiser Mountain Park 2011

Well a great weekend at the Cruiser Park was had by all.
We ended up with 9 cars in the finish.
On Friday a few members arrived during the course of the day to inc Eric, Justin & Philippe. A couple of late arrivals into the evening to include myself and Chris, as we arrived at 9:45pm.
TRav & Roland arrived early Sat morning, and followed by Tim.
We headed out for the day and tackled some medium tracks, to include some creeks runs.
The whole park had suffered quite a bit of damage from the Jan floods.
A couple of interesting tracks which had been washed out were tackled by Erics extreme machine, to inc old Hiluxe Hill. A very impressive vehicle to say the least and a credit to the enginuity and know how Eric displays.
Tim bought the D3 along for the day and drove pretty much everything.
Very impressive what the D3 can do, and Tim was not scared to give the D3 a bit of a hard time. Maybe a little harder to explain the bits of plastic hanging off the car and thrown in the boot to Narelle.:angel:
Andrew (Inside) drove the Izuzu Fender pretty much everywhere also, however a rear locker will certainly be a worth while addition down the track.
Chris (Rat) in the red rangie drove everything, and performed really well. Chris just may need to carry a 44 gallon drum of fuel behind to feed to 4.6 V8 beast !!! :o:D
All other vehicles performed well, with no real damage to report other than three engine mounts breaking on Philippe's Disco and a rear quarter glass breakage on Gumboot from the wombats at Camp Rd.;):angel:.
Early Sat night it decided to rain, and kept raining until 5am Sunday morning. So a quiet and early night to bed, and we all packed our wet tents etc and headed home quite early.
Overall a great weekend, and yes of course plenty of numb nuts in various other makes around to show how not to 4wd, to inc a Jeep rollover.
Will be sorry to see the old Silver Bullet sold off, but no doubt Trav's new 2 door Rangie project will turn out well and the Dunga Spirit will rage on:D

Even though we were only up for the day we had a great time. Lost the chrome trim from both of the sidesteps at different times and the plastic trim from the bottom of the door but they will all go back on easily enough (or maybe I need some real sliders for the D3 :twisted:). The biggest problem with the D3 is lack of clearance so I think an investment in the little module that lets you raise it right up to extended height might be worthwhile, or maybe I should just use one of the cheaper cars I have.

It was great to watch the modified trucks get up some of those tracks, Eric's 109 is just awesome, but the others are not in any way shamed by it. Okay, back, showerd and all that crap now time to write the trip report. beer by my side, that might be a good excuse for my bad spelling hey Justin :D

Anyway, up at the awful hour of 3AM, we couldn't get there on Friday I had a late day at work (never again, rather get there at 9Pm and put the tent up in the dark) one night to 'Cruiser isn't long enough for me. Roland was along for the trip as a passenger and packed all the gear the night before. Two blokes with seperate tents, etc.. takes up a hell of a lot of space but I got it all in. We rolled along to Cabooluture BP where I filled up the bullet ($147 later fuelwise, nearly 100 litres of dunga spec E10 isn't cheap :eek:) and ourselves with food from the golden arches on the run as we planned on getting there by 7AM or thereabouts and off on the road again. The trip to the park was uneventful, enjoying the final voyage in the bullet as it was sold as of Thursday (going to miss that roaring V8 exhaust).

Got to the office and paid, then drove on to find the crew at trakka terrace. Philippe (stikman), Eric (The 109), Justin (DRanged), Stuart (newhue??), Andrew (inside), Dave (Busman), Chris (rat), were camped and we went on to set up the gear. There was a thick cloud around the place but the weather held off til later on which was a good thing.

Not too long after, Tim showed up in the D3 with it's off-road tyres fitted and ready to go. We all soon get ready for a run out, so aired down the tyres and off we went. Eric was up front in the 109 'life size RC crawler' and was loking for cruiser climb with a couple of setours along the way. pretty easy start for the day but soon got serious once we looked at Cruise climb. This would have been doable if the first step wasn't too deep even in the bullet. The ground was very loose and marbley and hard enough to walk on let alone drive on but Eric was willing to give it a go. Did the track with a fair amount of ease (with 38 inch Creepys and portals makes it look simple :twisted:).

Anyway, off we went and found a few other tracks to have a play on then back to camp for lunch. Stuart was packed up and heading off over the lunch break but this reduced the group a bit but all good. The afternoon drive was a bit harder, doing camp road, hilux highway and frying pan which all had some interesting obstaces to conquer. For the most part it was without incident, Dave popped the window out of Gumboot, Justin and I did the roof guttering on Camp road on a rogue tree and Philippe did 3 engine mounts (know the feeling :() but overall no major issues. We did run into a very second hand XJ cherokee with a bit of a roof alteration. The owner didn't seem to phased but had a beer in his hand, explained the sense of content at the time :o

Back to camp, collected some firewood (none of us had a chainsaw) with a drag chain and a copuple of rangies but the campfire night was to be dampened (literally) by the rain. About 7:30 or so the heavens opened a bit, drizzly, ****ty type rain that hung around for the majority of the night. This was dissapointing but you get that :mad:

Sunday arrived, it was a decision to get going rather than hang around and drive, the tracks were probably okay as the rain was light but not worth the risk. Most were keen to move on and get back home and unpack so we followed suit.

A good weekend, a bit short but worth the trip. good to See Justin and Philippe on a trip, been a while. Hopefully see you both on some more trips in the not too distant future. It was a good turnout, better than last year but it is a fair hike from the Gold Coast. This was the bullets' last GCLRO trip, it's new owner awaits this week but should give me some needed $$$ to get the new 2 door beast on the road.

Eric and I had a slower but good run all the way to the park. Paid our dues and proceeded to the campsite. Well that was untill Eric put the Defender into low range to help tackle a hill with RC on the trailer etc. BANG and a "woops that was an axle breaking grin" was seen in the mirror.

So on the access road we took RC off the trailer and put the motionless Defender on. Chained down etc and off to the camp ground.

Set up camp and headed off for a small afternoon play. I must admit I was a bit rusty as this was the first off road drive in 5 months.

All in all we found the park very good. Apart from the distance for us Tweed blokes and the park being the ultimate Bogin magnet we may go back again. Although its the first time I have had to put up with some moron shating on the toilet seat. Such a grown up Bogin thing to do hey. QLD you must be proud;)

Eric and myself had an interesting drive to Caboulture with RC not liking the car trailer with defender on board.

A quick phone call was made and thanks to "Incisor" a safe house was found for the Deefer and trailer. This led to a much more relaxed drive home.

The coil conversion on the trailer was faultless, I should have done it years ago.

Once again thanks to all for great company and a recovery free weekend.

A great trip with some good people, good to see everyone again. I have some pics Ill post up tonight.

Like everyone has already said, great trip with great people.
My weekend didn't start so well with the poor tdi pushing 5 tonnes all the way to the park, finally crying enough after paying our fees at the office.
Sure enough it was a drive flange/axle spline failure and it went off with a loud bang, I looked back at Justin laughing as I had a no wheel drive defender on a hill. I would have been in serious trouble if the big fella wasn't there to help as I had to hold it on the brakes, he grabbed some of his wheel chocks and we swapped cars on the trailer. The look on Philippe's face was priceless when we came over the crest towards camp to see the defender being towed by RC as it would later be named.
We didn't waste any time setting up camp and changing wheels before going for a drive, first up was club rally circuit followed by a play area before getting some fire wood. Torqit being put to work towing massive logs to camp for us to burn, no one had a chainsaw so we kept feeding the logs into the fire as the night went on.
Saturday saw us trying to find our way around the park with a map that isn't really accurate and tracks that aren't marked, so after a few u turns and back tracking we found the tracks that we were after. Old man emu way was a bit of fun before I had a crack at cruiser climb, which more guys would have attempted if we had more time. Then onto top test track for a creek run which the cars with lower ground clearance opted to go around, before heading back to camp for lunch.
Telecom hill was first up for the afternoon with Tim taking the D3 up to the amazemnet of some folks in jap cars, camp road was next for a play. The access track leading down to it and the start of the climb are now very washed out with some big wombat holes.
After that we tackled troopie trail followed by ironpot road on our way to hilux hill, while showing the group the hill climbs Busman had a brown snake say hello before heading back into a log, sending him down a very slippery hill trying not to come unstuck.
We then headed down hilux highway and frying pan road, turning onto kings road followed by hawkins road back to camp.
With everyone fed and the fire going well the light drizzle had everyone seek shelter and an early night to bed.
In the morning we packed up ready for the long trip home towing the defender behind RC, the towbar sitting 6 inches too high after fitting portals didn't allow us to reach 50kph without massive trailer sway. So with some weight shifting we managed 65kph all the way to "Incisor's" house where the defender would have a sleep over on the trailer. Now much lighter RC could manage highway speeds with Torqit showing who's boss up the hills, we had a great run from there on.
I would like to say a big thank you to Justin, Dave(Incisor) and my mate Kai for all the help getting home.

The driver told wayne that he stuffed up., Good thing XJ's are cheep to replace.

Great reports, I was aiming to be there but just didn't happen.

It would have been great to see RC in action - its just not going to be the same without the v8 powered winch, but I'm sure what ever Eric comes up with will be equally sweet if not better.
