I'v been wondering what type of land rover to get i'm a fairly tall guy i'v been thinking of something like a 130 defender but as I'm a first year apprentice and they are fairly friendly with fuel unlike a patrol or landcruiser. so any feedback would be great cheers david

Most defenders have pretty limited seat travel for taller folk. I'm 6'1" (not tall, but not short) and the seat travel extension runners make a world of difference in the 90.
For what it's worth, the driving position in the D2 is pretty bloody good!

couple of factors will affect your choice...
is it your daily driver?
do you need those surpurfluous <<sp?>> bits? (like aircon, comfy seats, hearing... :) ) (If not a "series" is for you!)
do you have a preference for single cab/dual cab etc?
enjoy!

I'm a painting contractor and I get by with a 130 double cab.
A 130 twin cab can provide a lot of lockable tool space if you remove the rear seats. Then you have the tray for stuff not so important.
For under $100 you can get seat extension rails which allow the front seats to slide back more for taller people like yourself.
For my money a series LR are pretty cool and priced well, however the leaf springs can wear you down a bit as a daily driver. A 200tdi, 300tdi, TD5 130 are all coil sprung and ride quite well.
Just to confuse you, or hopefully clear it up, a 130 comes in a single cab and a twin cab version either style side or tray back. There is also a 110 single cab ute with either a style side or tray back option.
110 and 130 relates to chassis length

An "Isuzu County" should be in the equation :) Fairly cheap to buy, cheap to run and very reliable. Only downside is they are a bit noisy.
There are a few members near you who I'm sure would let you look at their machines, you are more than welcome to give mine the once over.

I'm 185cm (Gees, we've been on the metric system for over 40 years and my schooling was in imperial. If I can adapt anyone can) with a 130 Defender. I found a couple of big spacers (nuts actually) about 2.5cm high under the front (as in at the front of) seat bolts gives more leg room and a more comfortable seating position as it lifts the squab at the front to give more under thigh support (and cost nothing for a tight apprentice budget).
Something to keep in mind when trying a model on for size.
Discos are probably a nicer daily drive but you can do a lot more with a Defender.
