Hello,
I have been told I need the following done on my 1998 Disco Tdi as its leaking coolant;
-supply and fit of water pump
-replacement of gasket in the rear of water pump
-repair water hose from overflow tank to radiator
Has anyone had this done and if so, would anyone know how much approx the above should cost?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Myname
If you are a little bit handy on the spanners its not a difficult job,once you get the fan off the pump!!.Not sure how different the Tdi is but I changed mine a few months ago on a 3.9 V8 and it took about 3 hrs (with a few interuptions).I purchased an OEM equivalent replacement pump for $180 which includes the gasket .I also took the oportunity to change the coolant .Whilst you have the fan cowl ,fan and pump out of the way I would recommend replacing the bottom radiator hose as it would be a B*&^%$ of a job with everything in place.This hose is pricey at $120 genuine but I was advised not to go for the cheaper brands as they have been known to fail where they branch off.
If I was paying for this through a mechanic I would expect to add several hundered $$ in labour.
Well worth getting a copy of the RAVE manual and having a go at it yourself as you will save thousands over the life of the car,better still be a bit proactive and put some of the money you save on labour into some new tools and replace other parts before they become an issue.:D:D

Thanks Fossicker. Not very handy but looking at options. Vehicle has done 340000kms. Still drives well. Any suggestions of what other maintainence I should be looking at given the vehicle's age?

I guess they mean by the gasket behind the water pump they are referring to the' P 'gasket.Ensure it is changed when they do the pump,or chances are it will soon leak!
