Tempermental anti theft

I am sure this has come up before but I cant find the threads anywhere.

A few times recently when way out the back of the Flinders Ranges I had turned my TD5 2000 off and it did not want to start again. This happened once in the bottom of a river bed with very muddy entries and exits and we had other cars either side. It was on a very acute angle and if the car had not started eventually it was almost a case of never getting it out as there was no way to use a winch in this particular spot. In 4 days we had not seen another fourby and this was over Easter !
If I turned the key in the ignition there was nothing, zilch! I pressed the keyfob and nothing. I got out of the car and left it for a while and still no start. I locked it using the key and after a few minutes unlocking using the key it started, but it set of the alarm 1st. My wife is always complaining about this happening to her but I thought she was nuts - sorry Luv.
Is it possible to have the anti theft electronics deactivated and will this fix the issue? If I can get this done will the keyfob still work to remotely lock/unlock the car ? I also had the tailgate door refuse to open for a while but it came good in its own good time. These issues are a concern when travelling in remote areas so I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Does this happen with both your keyfobs? I would change the batteries in the keyfob first then go from there. Another possibility is the soldering on the actual button inside the keyfob has come off hence why it is not working, resolder on if it has. I think your back door problems is something unrelated to the non starting problem.
You can also enter a security code via the radio to activate / deactivate the security system, but this is not a permanent solution.

I had similar issue with my V8 D2, stopped to go shopping, came back car wouldn't start, tried everything, but nothing. D2 was checked by RACV who said there was no spark so it was towed to a LR mechanic, when they tested it the next day it was all good. They recommended changing crank angle sensor as a precaution and since problem has never come back. I believe TD5's have a similar sensor, also maybe check the inertia switch on the firewall in engine bay, they can cause starting issues.

Hello blackjack,

I had the thing where my td5 wouldn't start. In my case, I give the plug a jiggle that connects to the injection loom on the motor. It's happened 3 times and the problem was fixed instantly each time doing this. I'm not too sure whether this is the same issue as yours, but if it happens again try it.

Had similiar issue with 2004 TD5. Found the only way to get it started was to remove the key from ignition, lock the car using the fob, wait for the ECU to reset the immobiliser and then unlock it again with the fob. Key back in the ignition and bingo.

The same thing will happen every now again and I've been repeating this process on the this vehicle for the last four years. When it happened the first time I was stuck. Had lights on dash, fuel pump running etc but no start. Managed to get on the phone to my mechanic and with his help we tried using the key in the door to reset the system, reset switch on firewall, check the looms to the body and motor ECU etc to no avail. In the end he said he was stuck and suggegsted I get it towed. I had the sh$%^ up well and truely by then so I just keep trying different things until I came up with this solution. It's not very scientific but then often landy fixes never are.

Thanks for the suggestions, Ill keep them all in mind for the next time. I think that Mathews comments seem to be most aligned to the same issue I had. there was another D2 with us at the time and he said to remove the key, lock the door using the key, wait for 5 minutes, unlock with the key and away I'd go. well it did work 1/2 the time but other times it didn't but in the end it always came good. I am thinking of having all the anti theft stuff deactivated for my own peace of mind. cheers for the help
