This could be of interest to owners who are looking to replace their LR scissor jack with something more substantial.
I've sent them an e-mail inquiry re. price, weight, etc - I'll pass on any answer I get.
cheers

Brilliant, if a bulk buy is needed to encourage them to send to Australia, count me in.
Thanks for the info,
Cheers,

Nice - but the specs don't mention how flat it folds down to?
Bad as it is, one of the nice things about the LR jack is that you can squeeze it under the car even if the car is down to its bump-stops.

Gordon

Specifications
Maximum Rated Load Capacity 4400 lbs (2000 kg)
Minimum Lift Height 8" (20 cm)
Maximum Lift Height 18" (46 cm)
I'm guessing minimum lift height is as flat as it folds. It'd be more bulky than the original jack, but stable.
Videos on the applications page show jack in use on a D3 (LR3).
Oldsalt - good find.

O.K. - I've just got an answer from RIco Equipment and they say "it's only a Govt. product at this time" ... did some more digging and found this site ..
Quaddro Technologies - WORLD'S SAFEST 4x4 Off-Road Vehicle Recovery Mechanism. (http://www.quaddrotech.com/prod_app_4x4.html) ... they are a South African company and I've sent them an e-mail with all my questions and I'll let you know how I get on.
I suppose a few more e-mails from "interested" parties could only help to let them know how serious we are !!!
cheers
P.S. found a bit of discussion here as well ... heavy Duty jack for Raised Vehicles? - SA 4x4 Community Forum (http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php't=62135&highlight=quaddro)
I'm still interested.

note the pic showing the scissor jack under the LH front of the test vehicle (D3) is the same pic on both the Rico and Quaddro sites ?

Over on the FFRR section of the forum there has been chatter about the FFRR jack failing quite a bit and the car falling down - should really be the subject of a safety recall..
Is the same jack used on the D3/D4/RRS and has one failed under these vehicles. I have only used my jack once and was not real impressed with it.

If it will fit in the existing storage spot I'm in. ;)

It should at least fit in the cubby hole on the left side.

To be honest - I don't care if it "fits" or not (I'll find a spot for it) - I just want a jack that works properly and safely.

True that
I used mine the other week (had never been used) and the thread stripped itself! Bought a bottle jack for the meantime but really do need a good scissor type to get high enough.

I've tried contacting Quaddro Technologies about this jack and had no response. Also been in touch with some of the South African guys through the UK site to see if they are available there and it seems they have not been commercially released yet, expected later this year.
To me the jack seems a great solution to the dodgy LR jack!

As I said above ... maybe if a few more "interested" parties contact them it may put a fire under 'em and they may up the ante on their production line - worth a go at least.

cheersI find that there is a pretty good sized space for long skinny stuff on the floor just behind the second row of seats.
It is the foot space for the third row of seats - amazing what one can get in there and relatively easy to get to as well. To me, one needs some sort of scissors jack, plus a bottle jack.
On the road, to change a tyre, I use the scissor jack to lift the frame somewhat to take the weight off the wheel, and then the bottle jack under the lower wheel arm to lift the rubber up as required. It works really well on the front and so-so on the rear. Using both the scissors and the bottle jacks, then neither jack has to lift too high for a tyre change.
To lift out of a hole, well that is where an air jack looks good.
Re the front wheels, there is a dimple in the underside of the lower A arm that the bottle jack piston fits right into.

O.K.guys, here's the reply I got from Colin Christie of Quadrro technologies ...
Good day to all in Australia,
Thank you for the inquiry on the Quaddro Scissor jack product.
We have been doing extensive testing/development in South Africa and the USA over the last couple of years since the first product was launched in 2007.
The current Quaddro website will also be updated with the latest new product in the near future with complete information of distribution and approved suppliers detail.
Having done these ongoing testing we made some design improvements, refer to the attached photo's, and we are also currently in the process of completing an upgraded design for Military applications.
These final improvements should be completed and signed off by end of 2011 after which full production and marketing of the Quaddro products will commence to the 4x4 off-road industry.
Keep in touch and forward your LR forum details to us so that we can follow the response from the LR off-road community.
As seen in the attached photo's the lifting/recovery of a LR vehicle is completed without any problem.
We look forward to hear back from the LR off-road community.
Kind regards.
Colin.

Hi Guys
Somebody noticed my photo on the forum so I thought I had better post some answers.
I, like you, was skeptical about the D3 scissor jack and managed to track down Colin and the Quaddro Jack. he had one of the test jacks available and we did two days of testing on my vehicle and comparing it with the LR jack (which was dismal) This is when those photos were taken of My D3 and the jack...
The Quaddro jack is awesome and yes while bigger and taking more packing space than the Quaddro I would not hesitate, besides I too am carrying a scissor jack as well as a Hydraulic jack so am using up way much more space anyway.
I am going to be at the front of the queue when this jack finally hits the market.
It will cost, but then when I think of what the cost could be if my jack failed it is worth it.
I have used a HumVee scissor jack which is big and bulky and does the job but the Quaddro has finesse (never thought I would say that about a jack)
