OK Im about to have a look at putting some LED Light Bars on the Disco, I'm thinking of fitting one where you would put regular driving lights, ive seen these at night on another 4x4and they are well quite extreme. Theirs some available on ebay and the light output is fantastic. May run one uptop too but just for off road only. Ill post some pics too, but not sure if here or in the disco thread would be better. Anyone used these so far?

One of our members has one and said they're fantastic.

Haven't seen it in action yet though :(

I had a look at them but I cant quite work out the Legality of them.
Lights are supposed to be mounted in pairs-these are obviously one big unit.
Are the individual LED's counted as lights?

G,day, I just put a 40 inch Baja Designs light bar up on the heavy duty unistrut type bar on the roof. I tried it on the highway out west a couple of times since installation. The first time I had the headlights on high beam and the 100watt halogen IPF spotties on....... then I turned on the light bar, well I may as well have turned everything else off (which I did, just to try it) as it seemed as though the other lights weren't doing anything!

I must say that while the other lights were put to shame the light bar only had about the same distance penetration as the halogen spotties and even though I have never seen Hid spotties in action personally, I believe a good set of Hid's would outperform the light bar for distance easily.

But the light from the bar just seems to go everywhere. I will really only be using it for offroad adventures anyway and it should do a fantastic job.

Just my experience so far. The led's will only keep getting better, and cheaper.

Cheers
Mikey

I am assuming they comply with ADR's, as a single light bar.

as long as hooked up to operate only when headlights are on high beam I cannot see any problems, but ask manufacturer (or retailer) for ADR approval proof!

Photos I've seen of them in operation are very impressive! they also have a low sleek profile meaning they wont affect the aerodynamics of a landy !!!!!!

I have a 20" Rigid Industries combo unit. It has an excellent spread of light that is fantastic when off road at night (which is what I wanted). I'm happy with it on the highway too. I thought about getting a larger unit, but decided against it as I didn't want temporary blindness when dipping it for on-coming traffic. Another consideration was that if I went up to a 40" or 50" bar then I'd have to mount it on the roof which would increase drag and wouldn't be good in the rain as it would limit visibility by lighting up all the rain over the bonnet. The 20" bar also happened to be a good width to fit across the top of my bull bar.

Due to it's low profile the light is below the line of the bonnet and therefore does not obstruct my field of view. Overall the 20" bar was the right compromise for me. Except for one thing - after installing the light I was dismayed when my daughter took one look at the car and said "I just love the diamantes that you put on the Defender - they're so cute!"

A mate has the Baja Designs 40 inch stealth bar on his roof. Works really well. Does not beat HID for range, but craps all over them for everything else.

I'm tempted ..................
