I am looking for your opinions on NIL RUST rust protection.

I want to get some protection for the new 110 and there is a local person who uses NIL RUST.

If not NIL RUST, then what do others recommend.

Cheers

I've been looking at my rust protection options recently too as my Discovery will soon see a lot of beach time (working on Fraser Island).

I actually rang a Holden dealer who are local to me this morning to get a quote and they use Nilrust too. This was the first place I'd found who used it around here.

My findings are basically as follows.

1. In the UK they are fans of both Waxoyl (http://www.waxoyl.com/en/index.php?Katalog)and Dinitrol (http://www.dinitrol.co.uk/rust_prevention_waxes_and_oils.aspx). There are several threads (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/39664-waxoyl-rustproofing.html)on here that make reference (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-chatter/33538-spray-anti-rust-treatments.html)to these.
Availability in Australia is limited to some of the Dinitrol range AFAIK.
No-one brings Waxoyl into Australia that I can see. And I've spent a lot of time searching believe me. There was a place in the USA that could export it but the freight costs were extreme. I believe it travels under a Dangerous Goods ticket and cannot be sent by air so it's surface shipping with all the fun that entails. This is the mob (http://www.roversnorth.com/store/m-19-waxoyl.aspx).

2. Dinitrol is considered a superior product to Waxoyl by some in the UK. I have found a distributor in Australia for this range. Well, they are labelled differently but the product range appears to be the same. The importer/distributor has quoted me $19.05/litre + GST for the product called Carlofon 4941. I need to buy 1 carton which is 12 x 1 litre bottles. From what I understand I could expect to use somewhere in the region of 5 litres to do the underbody.

3. Tectyl 506 is another commonly used product. It stays sticky and is an absolute bastard to work on a vehicle with this stuff on it. The Toyotas I drive at work on Fraser are covered in this on a regular basis with touch ups of one of the Lanotec products. IIRC it's Lanox MX4 (http://www.inoxed.com/MX4.htm). Their claim that it doesn't become sticky or gum up is absolute BS and not to be believed. It appears that in the warmer months the Lanox causes the Tectyl to run off the vehicle and I don't believe they are a good match for each other.

4. Prices for the application of any of these products seem pretty consistent. Perhaps $100 extra per vehicle if you go through a major stealership, sorry, dealership in a rural area. So far my quotes range from $400 to $695 (Brisbane/Murgon/Kingaroy)

5. POR-15 is yet another one that people recommend. I haven't really looked at it yet but it seems very expensive. 1 litre = $90. Apparently a little goes a long way and at that price it'd want to. I think it's more of a product you put underneath other anti-corrosion films as a primer. Someone here may have experience using it?

Well, that hasn't really helped you much with your Endrust query has it?!

With a bit of luck we'l get some active discussion happening with this. It's quite often a bit of a contentious topic with the old school sump oil followed by a dusty road option at one end and the electronic gizmos at the other end of the spectrum.

Go on, someone start the fun off! Get out the evidence for your case...
