Sorry guys,
I know this is one of my 1st posts and has probably been asked on here a few times, search threw up nothing however
I have asked this over on the ExPo forum but nobdy there can realyl give me an answer so I thought here was the best place to ask about Old Man Emu springs...
Been bashing my brains out trying to find info on springs here in the UK and I think I have it sorted.
Going by OME standards does anyone run their 90 with 762s or 763s on the rear? I would like to hear your opinion.
Basically I have a set of Terrafirma (TF) springs, medium duty (300-340lb/in), that are rated the same as the 762s but my rig is heavy and Im soon to be towing a converted Sankey so I was thinking of the TF heavy duties or the OME 763s both have the same spec at 360lb/in. The question is, will I notice the extra 20lbs rating?
Im not bothered by the 2-3" lift. I just want a spring that will cope. The mediums on at present are ok, but they are on their way out and im looking to replace. Sometimes they feel a little soft in the corners especially with the rear fuel tank full
The 90 is running an ARB winch bumper, Wolf Wheels, roll cage, ARB rack, Swingaway carrier, extra TD5 fuel tank, tree sliders, tank guards and a host of internal gubbins (Engel fridge, recovery gear, spares etc) it is loaded like this all the time and mainly used for back country trips and overland trips Its not a daily driver.
Thanks for your time gents.

Yup. Got some tendons wedged in shoulder joint... and a nerve or two. Been getting bad for a while, waiting for the surgeon to sharpen his hatchet
I'll find out for you, then post it on here - which is quite amusing seeing as this forum is based so many thousands of miles away and you are thirty miles up the road...

Hi
I had 764 on my winch challenge 90 in the Uk but they were a bit hard , changed them to 763's which we great . But that was with dislocation cones and lower shock mounts
I ran twin ARB lockers and 35" simex with huskie winch on the back , plus all the other stuff you need in the back of a winch challenge 90
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/06/1020.jpg
But on my other 90 I also run 763 , this is because there is another fuel tank under the back and it was set up for the 25,000 mile trip around Aus where it was going to be loaded up with stuff and towing a trailer
This can be a bit bumpy on the rear end if there is no fuel or weight in the back

If you are really worried and want more info then phone Simon at Devon 4x4 or Edd at froggs island 4x4 . Both of them have been using OME for years in 90's. I was sat in a pub in Scotland with both of them back in 2000 talking about this very thing. So they are the best in the Uk to help you . Both of them stock OME's too

Stick with mediums and fit some internal airbags...
Either Poly-air or Coil Rite...
Google: Trucksprings  excellent pricing!!!

Thanks Reads,
If your running the Extra HDs (763s) on your 90 then thats fine, I will go with them. I have a cage and extra TD5 rear tank so probably heavier than yours. We will also be towing a Sankey.
When I get to Aus Maybe I will swap them out for 762s :D
Choice made, job done.
Cheers.

I tried telling him about air bags ages ago but you know what these young lads are like.... :D
I ran Poly Airs on the rear of the RRC for almost 160,000 miles of hard stuff and never had a problem

I dont know, Ive never had it weighed.
roughly rear additional load
Td5 tank/guard/gubbins - 10kg fuel 60kg
Roll Cage - ~60kg?
ARB rack/hannibal awnings 35kg
inside Mantec shelves/window grilles/dog guard 10kg
inside, Engel Fridge full 35kg
inside tools/spares 30kg
inside other camping gear ~30kg
inside ground anchor 15kg
rear swing away plus hi lift 20kg
additional weight of wolfs and 255s x3 15kg
rough front load
ARB winch bumper 30kg
Warn M8000 25kg
additional weight of wolfs and 255s x2 10kg
rock sliders/ tank guard/diff guards 20kg
Think thats it. weights are all my estimates compared to 25kg bags of gravel we lift at work!
feel free to chip in with some actual weights if need be.
Dont forget the addition weight of my sankey (water tank/RTT/all the toys :) )
Im not sure about the bags because my loads are constant, very little comes out/off the 90.

Well forget the Tyres apart from the spare as they are un sprung weight
I think you might need a set if 764's will all that stuff you have
As I said call simon and he will tell you what ones you need from the info you have told us
you have to remember that although OME are Aussie there are very few 90's here in Aus. So very few ARB shops have come across them

I agree with Ali that Simon's is worth a punt - just remember that D4x4 and Mr Buck are not all knowing and infallable
Simon is just a retailer so worth talking to Arbil who are the importer
I would also talk to Britsh Springs AND to Eibach - the former will make a spring to your spec for not too much wad
try these guys for a wieghbridge Bristol - Scrap yard, scrap metals and cars - Sims Metal Management (http://uk.simsmm.com/bristol)
You need an all up weight but more importantly you need to get each axle weight at all up. If you go over the GVW or the GAW you can talk to VOSA about having your weights increased - you will have to agree with them on spring wieghts...
Having said that if you are within 15% of GVW then lose some lard. You are carrying too much!
I avoid no OEM springs where possible, this allows me to avoid homologation issues and potential liability in an accident. So for a heavily laden 90 I would fit the Disco rear NTC8572 Pink/Yellow/Red - these are progressive so allow more comfort unladen. They are rated to 200/330lbs.
330 is the same as the HD 110 rears! If you still have issues, all joking aside, then fit airbags

Been a long time since I started this but I got it weighed... 2440kg with both tanks full, no passenger/driver. It was a cheeky night escapade where I managed to avert security and sneak a peak at the digital readout with the 90 both on and off the scales. Need to tow the Sanke down there next.
That was way more than I expected to! shocked.
emailed D44, see what they say.
Looks like I will need the HD TF springs at 360lb/in and HD fronts at 220lb/in.
