Well after putting new coils in the disco (thanks Phil) No1 daughter wanted to look and take a 4WD for a test drive, so in the car and a little drive to McGrath Volkswagen to test drive the new Volkswagen Amarok Trendline.
Of coarse I wanted to drive it as well:D I must say I was very supprised and impressed, firstly at how much room there was inside the car, there is enough room in the second row seats to comfortably seat 3 tall adults, much more spacious than any of the other dualcabs on the market by a country mile, I put the front seat in a position that I was happy with legs almost out straight, then got into the back, I had enough room to almost have my legs straight out, it didn't feel cramped at all, the rear seats were comfortable much better than any other dualcab I've sat in.
They are big and they look bloody brilliant, they have good power and torque, 120Kw, 400Nm, a bit slow off the mark in first, but once in second, they do get up and go, we drove one fitted with soft springs (VW comfort springs) they are smooth, with hardly any road noise, steering is precise with good feel AND it doesn't drive like a truck, it has a very easy clutch, gear change is notchy but still very good, good seating postion with an up and down adjustability, which makes it very close to the seating position of the Disco.
Overall, brilliant, would I buy one, hell yeah, is my daughter buying one, hell yeah, am I happy with her decision, you betcha:burnrubber::banana:
A bonus with this is,
From the ARB website
To coincide with the release of the Volkswagen Amarok, ARB is pleased to announce a full array of quality 4x4 accessories to further increase the functionality and performance of this vehicle, including deluxe bull bars, Old Man Emu suspension, canopies and roof racks.

I drove one a couple of months ago. If I was in the market for a dual cab ute it would be at the top of my list, head and shoulders above anything else.

A small dualcab:eek: it's larger than all the jap Korean and Indian dualcabs, it's bigger than Defender 130 in the cab, it's wider and fits a full size pallet between the wheel arches, it has more power and torque than the 130, so apart from the F-truck series what's bigger:confused:

ummm I think you oughta go and look at them, they aint a "small" dual cab ute. I havent checked the specs but looking at them I think their footprint would be larger than a D2. OK you specification freaks, do your business and let us know.....I am impressed....I reckon its what Land Rover should have developed to replace the Defender....(Dennis ducks the flying objects.....)

OK OK .... Sorry lads ....... Shouldn't judge a book by its cover, I guess.
What sort of price are they asking for them?
Sounds like it might be OK as a tractor for a 5th Wheeler van.
Notice I didn't state what size 5th Wheeler :D

Auto is ment to be out next year. 3rd quarter I think but could be put back of course.
Check out 4x4 Australia test against Triton & new v6 Navara Very favorable. Top of my list for a D/C ute. Inside to so small
Make a nice match with my new TD6:angel:

6mths deliverly time:eek:
The size is what impressed me the most, I was so used to struggling to firstly get into the back of the current dualcabs and secondly trying to get comfortable.
The Amarok is like getting into the back of a normal car, you sit with your legs straight out, without having your knees up around your ears, or jammed up against the back of the front seat, or having to put your legs across the car.
There is a wagon model too, when I asked about it, it was pretty clear it wouldn't be coming to Australia, something about us only being a small market and this was why the auto is taking so long, best thing would be to email VW and ask I think.
I think the ute looks better;)

This was the sneak peak photo of the 4WD wagon in 2008.
This looks much better than the 2WD on the previous page.

I went had a look yesterday, not bad, not got the chrachter of the defender but i prefer it over a hi-lux, underneath is pretty flat, and not too much sticks out for trees to rip off.
the dealer new sweet FA about the 4x4 system, and did not really understand any of the switchs for hill descent TC if its got that.
the service cost impressed me every 15k km and only 300-400 for each service that would work out lot cheaper than the 110.
fuel economy (allegedly) is between 6-8lph if that true pretty good.

There are two different 4x4 systems. Wont bore you with names. But basically.
1. Constant 4x4 with no low range ( only available on top of the line)
2. Selectable 4x4 with low range ( Available on full range )
3. 2WD ( only on base model)
There is a 4 model range
Amarok
Amarok Trendline
Amarok Highline
Amarok Ultimate
Would all depend on your intended use which way you go
