Rocks in the Rotors

On my last trip I had rocks get in behind the rotor backing plates twice. One on the R/H rear and the other the R/H front. Am I just just unlucky or have others had this problem as well.

I am running the 18" rims at the moment.

I just had the same thing happen to the Holden Ute...

Horrible squeal, got home and thought as it is time for a whell rotation would investigate.

First time its happened in 30 years of on and off road driving, so I guess it is an unusual event for me.

I cannot recall any pea gravel being caught up in my rotors in the last couple of years, but I regard it as common.

I have been driving GM cars and pickups for as long as disc brakes have been out, (generally only on the fronts), and at least once a year, for a day or so, there will be a squealing noise emanating from one of the discs. I to not think it does too much real harm, but does sound alarming.

Not uncommon with any disk brake set up.

Happened to me last weekend - had to get the front right wheel off and remove the stones I could get too (nightmarerish noise)!! Not a good thing to happen when out 4wding with Patrol's and Land cruisers that didn't suffer such issues...I copped plenty of stick! :(

Still I also didn't get stuck when they did so all was well with the world :D

A lot of people remove the backing plates on earlier Land Rovers. Maybe you could do the same on the later ones?

I wasn't off road at the time... Well it was a very average sealed road both times.

I have had stones in mine and i just reversed and they dropped out , lucky I suppose;)

Same here, had a rock in the front drivers side last month even though I wasn't offroad, 1st time in 18 months in fcat frist time ever for the RRS. Stopped, reversed back a bit and it dropped out. Had the same with my old P38 on a few occasions as well, reversing usually did the trick. I only removed the backing plates after a particularly muddy offroading weekend left the front brakes completely clogged up and bent one of the plates.
