Battery light

So I went 4WD yesterday and went through a few mud puddles etc with no issues.on the way home the battery light came on and hasn't gone off... I'm
Guessing this must be something to do with the alternator getting mud in??what should I be checking??

aprentice at work drove his navara on the beach.the alt has full charge but the light is on.he checked the plugs etc and most modern cars use relays in the warning light system.

auto elec has told him to replace the brushes and clean the slip rings due to the sand powder inside.

to me that dont make sence as the charge rate is spot on but its fixed it.

brushes in the alternator would be my guess had the same problem in my 2002 defender 110 not a easy job
