After a bit of a hiatus from landrovers for a while, god I miss my Series 1, I have purchased a 2a, plus 35.
It seems a quite good unit, solid chassis, reasonably straight panels, high speed transfer case, nearly everything works(although the drivers door lock seems buggered).
Only downside is the holden 202 in it, although I have an old 2.25 diesel here and possibly a petrol 2.25 as well ( a SWB 2a was thrown in as spares).

Yep. It looks like a lovely motor car. Imagine how much more lovely it will be without a Holden motor in it.

I'm looking forward to putting a diesel back in it, just have to rebuild it, no worries.
I put the orig. rims back on yesterday, looks much better. Think I might go back to an original front bar too if I can find one.
I'll have to see what I want to grab off the other 2a that I got for parts with it, a SWB hardtop, I'm told it's an ex NT police vehicle.

keep posting photos as you progress:) I've started a rebuild on a Diesel engine myself, have the block ready for re boring, just waiting for the parts to arrive from the UK. I think it great to see a vehicle that is kept close to original, particularly if it has been preserved rather than restored. Adds to its character:cool:

Hi Surly One

I looked at the photos and noticed a couple of things.

Very nice condition and should be well maintained if thats any indication.

The badges are a curious mixture, as the Land Rover badge is the English build, with a plus 35. Now didn't I read somewhere recently on this forum that the Plus 35 badge's were only fitted to Australian build 2A Land Rovers?

It has the six cylinder firewall, but the badge for the six isn't on the grill.

When fitting the Holden 202, the good thing with the six cylinder model is that the motor is futher back in the engine bay so the front cross member shouldn't have been modified to move the raditor forward. This should make restoring it back to orginal a lot simpler if you choose to do this.

I would sell my mother in law for that heater! they are rare and only found in the 2A six cylinder model.

Good luck with it.

Hi Arthur, how much are mother-in-laws worth? I've been wondering what to do about the heater in the vehicle I was given a few months ago.

Seems as if someone has done a fair amount of work a fair few years back on this one. It has the stronger rear axle as far as I know and I think in the past it may have been a diesel. It may be a bitzer as far as parts go on it though.
The old Smiths heater is in pretty good condition, though it didn't get too warm driving it to work this morning.
The tray seems to sit very high on the vehicle has high sides as well.
What is the difference between a six cyl. bulkhead and the normal 2.25.

She looks much better with the orig. rims, pulled a little of the clutter off the front and started to check it out a bit more.
I also started to pull the old diesel down, doesn't look too bad, pistons look a little rough though.

Yep, she looks right with those wheels.

Well I picked up the other landy today (in the rain), a bit worse for wear than I thought, I only really want a few little bits off it, but it was part of the deal with the ute and I really don't want to see her scrapped..
Looks like it would have been a good one until farm usage and scavanging took their toll.
It came with a second good hard top though.

It looks as if you already have a bid on ebay, so at least it's going somewhere.

Tray height looks about normal to me - don't forget the tray has to clear the wheels at full spring deflection down on one side and up on the other. Height of sides is an individual choice. The tray may not have been specifically designed for the Landrover.
What is the difference between a six cyl. bulkhead and the normal 2.25.
The six cylinder bulkhead has a much deeper bulge into the cab, and the gear levers are closer to the seat, so the floor panels are also different.

Did a bit of work on the steering, it's really nice to be able to drive in a straight line now. I guess nobody parks LWB landys in new shopping centres much though.

:D
I recently removed the power steering system that had been fitted to my 109" S2a by a previous owner. I have now almost perfected the "turn in hauling on the steering wheel 1/2 past the parking spot, stop, reverse up while hauling on the steering wheel, stop, turn in hauling on the steering wheel, stop" ... and don't even think about backing it up to straighten it up!:D
Also, always look for angle parking.;)
