Hi

Is there anything you'd need to be planning for, looking for in purchasing an 08 TDV8 RRS with 85k on the clock? Ive heard vague rumours of transmission trouble in D3s at around that time - is it the same here or a different one.

Any tips, experience or recommended search words would be gratefully received.

thanks

Ha! You must be looking at the one at Southern? I took it out for a long drive in the hills last week. I was within a couple of mm of buying it and I chickened out at the last minute, mainly because of vague misgivings about the mileage. I don't think there is any rational reason to worry about 85,000 kms on that engine and I could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. It sounded magnificent and the torque was awe inspiring. It was close, but I decided that buying the Sport would be more about vanity than practicality and I ended up with a (new) 3.0 TDV6 Discovery. Good luck - it is a magnificent vehicle and an awesome engine.

Cheers

The gearbox should be OK - I would get a mega flush and steel transmission sump done at the 96,000km service though.

From what others have said I would be checking the steering rack, tie rods and ball joints. Other than that - the usuals - servicing, recalls etc.

When I got my TDV6 I would have loved a TDV8 but they were still a bit expensive and relatively high mileage where my priority was to get as low a mileage as possible.

You guessed right. It's not for me though:( Asking on behalf of someone else.

PS he's looked at the D4 3 as well. It's funny, he's in the opposite place to you, fighting his sensible part, just for once and wanting to go with the vanity.

Funny, I bet there are a few of us on here with D4's who looked hard at 2nd hand RRS TDV8.....I also went very close, but ended up buying the new 3.0LD4. To be honest I cant recall the 3.6TDV8 being that much better than the 3.0l....certainly not in normal everyday driving (maybe if I "fanged it" I'd notice it more! Anyway, I guess I was also swayed by the practicality of the D4 - 7 seats, more boot spac (eg drawer sytem etc) and availability of after market gear.

And yes I admit it, I do still look at the RRS's at the lights and think they DO look good!!

sigh!

You've probably looked already but if not, it's worth perusing www.rrsport.co.uk (http://www.rrsport.co.uk) you'll find plenty of info on the TDV8 there.
