I'd like to hear from anyone who has converted a single cab to a crew cab. I'm having a serious think about it since I need the extra seats, and I'd get to keep my vehicle which is still in really good nick. The big question is - how much would it cost? Does anyone have any particular insights or tips for someone considering such a project?

The job is pretty simple. Takes about half an hour and costs around $50. I can't see what you're faffing about for.

It should be a pretty straight forward job as I suspect the chassis will have all the body mounts to suit both single or dual cabs. There would be no modifications needed, just bolt off bolt on. I think the most difficult part would be sourcing the dual cab body at a reasonable price, although it would be quite possible to find one at a wreckers. Obviously you would only need to purchase from the firewall back and you can re-use your front doors to keep the cost down.
I suspect the white one would have firewall damage, but you could even re-use your firewall and windscreen.
They are out there. These two are at TRS.

The white one is in pretty good nic inside. I was tempted to get the rear windows and front doors off that one.

Oh, not this bloke again.
Apparently also if you completely rebuild a series 2A it can be done in a few weekends, and if you use your mate's shed, you can serete the whole lot away into nooks and crannies and no-one can even find it.

If your in QLD a mob closer to you is british offroad, Ive heard they are pretty good and seem to have what your looking for as well. Look at their june and feb 2010 wrecks. British Off Road - The Land Rover spare parts specialists - Now Wrecking (http://www.britishoffroad.com/nowwrecking.htm)

You may be able to fit the seats from a puma and the roof from an earlier 130. It may also help that your single cab panels are in good nick as they may partially offset the cost of the dual cab roof , rear interior and back doors. If your doing the build yourself you could also look at customising the cab with a bit more space or fitting fuel/water tanks or an area for a fridge.

Where the heck is tallegalla weir ?
I have a 130 roof lining but it's not exactly postable or readily packable.

Thanks mate. I intend to get in touch with British Off Road. They always have plenty of wrecks there.

OK, TRS want $4500 for all the bits I need, not including the tray. And then I'd have to get it all here. They want $1500 just for a pair of rear doors. Also I had a quote from the manufacturer of my tray of $1500 to cut it down and respray. On that basis it's not looking too viable. But it's just a start. I'll keep looking.

So you have 2 options : $6500 + labour and all the little bits to get it together so say 6 months of playing in the garage on the weekends,or
Have a look around for a 130 DC that you can trade yours for around $6-10k change over, depening upon how much you value your weekend.
The other thing you may need to look at is insurance, wether they will insure it, how much and if there is a difference between a factory dc and a conversion.

Add around $500? for engineer's ticket -seating / body shape change (legality).
My thought's were it's cheaper to buy complete vehicle than parts (over 5k from wreckers), swap body then onsell donor, but I'm looking for 110 wagon & a 200tdi will fit as well ( but a 300 will give me lotsa spares) All bit's and pieces there then, but is double the work + 2x engineers tickets & rego to onsell donor, still reckon may be best way to go for me (just need to convince other half we need another land rover laying around, the 109's might have to go)

As long as the donor vehicle is still registered or a repairable write-off, that is ok but you gotta be carful as if it's a total write off the chassis etc will not be allowed to be re-regoed.

Here in QLD we're a bit more fortunate with engineering for bolt on conversions like this - it will just require a Mod plate. The last one I got for a change of body type on a 110 cost $50 (5 door wagon to single cab ute) and took about 15 minutes to get approved.

Thanks mate, you just saved me $450.
