Hey all ,
I am in the process of eliminating certain bad points I found out about on our trip up north .

One is removal of the shovel and Hi lift jack and the Kaymar brackets .
I am relocating the shovel and tools , but the Hi lift is a quandering for me .

I have had a look at the Front-runner unit but don't like the idea of it there .

So my question is where do you have yours mounted ? Did you buy the kit or make it yourself ??

thanks guys

Mine lives under the back seat, wedged in place. There is only the one impression in the carpet from it being there over the last year and a half, so it mustn't move around despite the precarious angles, bounces and sudden lurching my driving puts it through.

This is how I mounted mine on my RRC. Click on pics for larger image.

Mate I like that approach , not being cynical , but is that legal protruding past the line of the bull bar ? :o

I have a Stinger aerial set up on the bull bar so setting it up on top is eh not too good :(

Probably not these days but it was at the time. I only bolted it on for trips.

Q. What vehicle?

On the 110 I use the Kaymar bracket but have it lying flat on the rack, rather than side ways. I think this better distributes the weight, but it does eat in slightly on the rack space.

My preference would have been on the rear wheel carrier, but
(1) Kaymar didn't make one to suit the Defender
(2) I already had the rack brackets as they came with the car.
(3) I made a shovel, axe, mattock bracket for the wheel carrier for arduous trips and have a dirty gear bag there for long road trips.

I can't mount it across the rear cross member due to the Kaymar wheel carrier.

I think that if we assess our situations, we'd probably all have to confess that we hardly use the hi-lift, and can probably get more use from 2 bottle jacks under the drivers seat.

Mine is a 110 wagon , I actually have used mine for a hand winch , for helping to get mates out of front end bogs ;) I have a bbq grill that fits over the rear wheel so the mount is not really going to fit .
I am trying to rid all excess weight and the stretching / lifting ect . , wanting to really renegotiate weight distribution

I've seen them mounted across the back cross member, below the rear door but don't know if that works if you've got a rear step. We are also doing a re think on weight and placement since the trip north.

Here is a picture off the Dolium website with a jack mounted and step still in place, but this is not the usual jack mount orientation. Give Dolium a call or drop them an email. I have found them helpful.

I suspect the step issue is more a towbar issue than a jack mount one.

This works for us. I keep it well lubricated with Lanotech or similar. I have had it in this position for about 10 years now. The Oky strap stops the handle from bouncing. I can also insert a padlock on the right bracket.

Alas I will be looking for another position for the Puma.

I made a mounting bracket that clamps around the 75x50 RHS of my wheel carrier. I sold this one to another forum member because I'm going to make another one that incorporates a light pole....when I get time :(

Mine sits across the rear floorwell secured by two short lengths of threaded rod and wingnuts.

I hate you blokes who can weld!

This is what I did - Each of these mounts is welded on and now has a stud in which goes through the rack and a wing nut holds it down. I then used a bungee to stop the handle rattling.

Thats me and it works great. Its only a 110cm jack. I had to trim about 30cm from the shovel.

I have a number of photos I took of HiLift jack mounts when I was in Cooma in 1998. I suppose I had better scan them and put them up.

My front runner mounting kit is bolted to the outside of my roof rack, arb model so done where the legs have the bracket that joins the two parts of the rack together - this prob'ly doesn't make sense but I can't upload photo's as I'm onsite & landys' in Perth. Was done by lifestyle 4X4 if that helps?

Just did this with mine (in a ARB jack bag (no carpet)) - went 4wding over the weekend and it went great.

Out of the way, no mud/dust and didn't move ane inch (despite plenty of low range work in the hills).
