gearbox problems

Can anyone give me some advise I have a 110 Defender 2000, and i've had a knocking in my gearbox but only in 5th, has enyone had a similar thing happen?:(

This is only a preliminary bit of R380 advice, and not a complete assessment of what may be wrong - the 5th gear is mounted in the rear extension of the box, and there have been times that it's bearing fails, causing noise similar to what you describe. Before you remove the gearbox for either a full or partial rebuild, do more research, as I've heard members of this forum repairing the 5th gear bearing in situ &/or using synthetic oil to cure the knocking.
