Ok a couple of days ago I officially was awarded my OHS Diploma. no comments from the peanut gallery that don't like OHS, it is necessary for me to progress into Emergency Management.:p
Just about finished my Paramedical Science Diploma as well, really just a matter of saving the funds to finish it off.
What to do next, thinking maybe a degree.
:D:D:D

Thinking seriously about it. Any info you can pass on regarding tackling a degree would be appreciated.
No promotion associated with its, just personal development and will put me in good standing for upcoming jobs.

Yeah, May have to stir Adam next time we have contact.
Really it is not all that hard, more time consuming than anything. IMHO anyone could do it. A lot of us do most of it day to day anyway
Cheers

Congratulations Craig. One more step to setting yourself up as a private consultant.

Have you got, or thought about, Cert IV in Workplace Training & Assessing. Seems to be some money in that at the moment. Bloke we have on site at the moment (admittedly he's an RTO) is on $300 per hour.

Brian,
Yeah have had my trainer and assessor cert IV for about 4 years now. Not sure about consulting atm, good money but can be fickle contracts. But hey if something solid comes around I will always look at it.:):)
RTO status takes quite a bit, I have a couple of friends who have gone down this path.

Nothing more important than looking good on paper when it comes to the career

Yeah having the bit of paper is nice and an achievement as I have put in the work, but I think work ethics and credabilty are much more important.
What I have noticed is there are way too many young uni grads with the same bit of paper, but no experience, but they are being hired by recruitment as they have the bit of paper over someone who has 20 years practical experience doing the job.
I know in the last few weeks we have had some impressive resumes come in with all the right qualifications on paper, but when asked to do some basics like explain how to use a Zoll M defib they have had no idea.:o

I understand Craig

Our place now only hires base operators with completed Yr 12!!!

Without the paper it seems in today's world a snot nosed (fresh) cadet trumps years of real world knowledge.

I'm truly happy for your achievements. I need to do more here too...

Congrats. As a bit of a lifelong student myself, I agree with you that its usually more about persistence than brilliance. Interesting though.
I have the TAE 401104 myself, but not using it at the moment. Looking though...

I work up the road from you and can definately see the change of old guard into young guys with 'paper'.
I know myself, if i was to reapply fro my own role through Recruitment, i wouldn't get an interview.

I see you have a Torry in town, own a hatch myself. love to see some pics.

You are definitely on the same track that I plan to be on.

I am one term down into the OHS degree (and wishing I had just gone for cert IV or diploma). If you (or anyone else) wants to upgrade to a degree in paramedical science then look at central Queensland uni as they now have a paramedical science degree and its available externaly.

I use to work with the guys that are now the lecturers and recommend them thoroughly.
