Guys,

Ive tried to stick with the 'search is your friend' mantra but cant seem to find anything definitive. Its all just numbers that mean nothing to me rolling around in the ether...

Im looking at putting a 1.22 transfer case into my 06' Defender and need a little advice.
Weher I live I end up doing a fair bit of highway cruising and it would be great if I didnt have to keep worrying about flogging the Td5 at 115klms.

My friendly local transmissions guy has given be free rein over any of the Land Rover bits in his storage shed. He's happy to help me rebuild a transfer box as im very gearbox-fobic.

Nothing is organised in his shed (im sure you can picture it) but the first likely candidate I came across was marked 41D***G. Is this a LT230Q or a later SE? Is this box going to work easily (diff lock, speedo etc) or should I keep looking for a 36 or 37D?

Thanks in advance.

Shane

Check Ian Ashcrofts website (http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk). You could also send him an email. He is very helpful.

The Q cases are 2.11:1 instead of 2.22:1.

I have a 36D Q-case in my 110 (3.9TDi). No complaints.

High and low will be reversed with the disco t-case.

Hi Shane, if you are using the onboard cruise control option in the ecu this will apparently not work with the Disco gearing or only in 4th gear.
Something to do with revs/speed.
I looked at doing the same but I like the cruise option so decided against it.

We also can do a lot of klm's touring up here before needing 4x4.
I am now looking at 255/85/16s to get it a bit taller (and higher).
Not as good as the disco t/case gearing but better than nothing.

Mine is an 02 Xtreme Defender.
Cheers,
Paul

Hmmm

I run the Q gears in my 2003 TD5. Much more refined, well worth the swap.

The speedo can be fixed with a Truspeed. The ECU also has a speed input, don't know why, but the speedo really should be attended to if you muck about with the gearing.

Lastly, I run the Autron cruise control. which from memory operates from ECU terminals. Again no problems, but I only use it in 5th.

Umm, I just swapped my old (110) drive gear into the new (disco) t-case. Speedo worked fine.
