View Full Version : Orange warning light on my Puma

Had the engine warning light that is in the rev counter come on last week. This is the light that in the book says, " If this light comes on whilst the engine is running, bolt off to your dealer asap" (or words to that effect). I had it put on a computor in my home town which said that it was a fault with the air flow switch on the turbo. The car is running perfectly normally and folowing this the light went out and came on again after a couple of days. I made the 250km pilgrimage to the Dubbo dealer and left the car with him for about 4 hours whilst they checked it all out. They came up with a couple of minor readings but couldn't nail it down. After driving home again, the light came on again yesterday:mad:.
I love this. We are heading off to Innaminka in about two weeks time for a look about and I guess I just drive the thing. It's quite possible that it will go off again, as I did drive it for about 600km before it came on again. (I suppose I could burn it and take the wifes Xtrail instead:twisted:).
Any ideas anyone? (My experience being that the forum knows more about these things than any dealer does!).

If it's not going into "limp mode" I'd put money on the MAF sensor flagging a fault due to your EGR valve sticking.

Can you hear the EGR do its cleaning cycle when you shut the engine down? If so does it sound like its moving freely, or does it sound laboured?

Hope this helps,

Tim

A reply to both your answers and thanks for the interest. Yes I can hear the EGR valve cleaning and it sounds as it always did. I don't think that there is any change there.
With regard to warranty, I did report the issue originally, and when I took it to the dealers the other day, they have said that there doesn't appear to be a problem and to drive as normal. Of course the light has come on again and it wasn't on when I was at the dealers the other day. The fault still shows up on the computor apparently, even when the light is not still on. It has already registered as a fault in the system. Also, I have a feeling that if the car is locked overnight (as in for a considerable length of time), the light goes off. Strange...

I think from memory a light that does not induce limp mode will go out after 3 full starts of the car.

I'm pretty sure it will be your EGR is faulty.

"I think from memory a light that does not induce limp mode will go out after 3 full starts of the car... "

In this case that hasn't happened.
I have tried locking and unlocking the car up to probably 10 times and it still stayed on.:angrylock: Then yesterday, it went out and hasn't come on again!!! :)
strange
