My high definition set top box allows me to record to memory stick. When I burn the program to dvd it plays on computer but not in dvd player. Do I need a different burning program or am I doing something wrong? Jim

What type of file are you trying to burn Jim i.e what is the file extension (usually 3 letters after the filename)?

Second part to this puzzle is how old is your DVD player?

When you record to memory stick you are recording to one of the many available video formats. In general DVD players recognise only a specific file format though some newer models will recognise some non standard file formats as well. When you burn your memory stick file to disc you are not burning it in a DVD compliant format.

Down load Free Make Video Convertor (http://www.freemake.com/). Add your memory stick file to FreeMake (it recognises over 200+ file formats) and choose to convert 'to DVD'. You should be right - FreeMake will burn a DVD compliant disc for you.

Hi Ferret!! I downloaded the program as you suggested and re burned the file to DVD. It changed the format and the DVD player now recognises the file. However although it comes up on tv screen it only has a thumbnail of the program which runs for about 30 sec and starts again. I cannot get it to play full size. Any suggestions. Comes up like that on computer and if I click on thumbnail picture it opens and plays full program. Jim

Sounds like your just viewing the DVD menu. Try selecting the thumb nail picture on the TV with your DVD remote and clicking 'play' or whatever you use on your DVD remote to select items.

When you hire a commercial video to play on your DVD player you will go through some kind of selection process to play the video, select chapter or select special features etc. Do the same thing with the thumb nail image you see.
