So I just picked up my series 3 LWB after putting it in to get the gas conversion done. The guys have done a fantastic job and I'm pleased I went for the flexi hoses instead of the standard copper service line, can be reused if it's removed plus a bit more sturdy for off road use.

Interesting thing is the car seems quieter at cruising speed (80km/h) on the highway running on the gas than on the petrol. Maybe thats just because I haven't driven it for 2 days while it has been in the shop, but it almost seems like the revs are slightly lower on gas. No idea if this is just a trick of the ears or if this is what happens, gas having a higher octane level than fuel.

Just have to get used to the weird noises of all the solenoids and valves opening when the ignition turns on, looking forward to the fuel bill being a lot lower. All up $760 after the rebate from the government.

a couple of questions on your conversion.
- how big a tank and where is it fitted.
- who did the install for you in BNE.

Looking at doing a series 3 shorty.

Thanks

I got mine done at T & D mechanical at caboolture. Did 6 months of shopping around and a lot of research before getting it done, price varied around $1500 between lowest and highest so it pays to look before you buy. They quoted about $2600 originally, I saved a lot by buying my own tank (one of the biggest parts cost wise) and if you can pick something up like I did ($60 for a 3 year old manchester tank which is one of the 2 better brands which was 3/4 full of gas). As they last 10 years between tests it was a good buy.

Tank is an 85 litre (water) which is about 72 litres of gas from memory. I wanted a few things done a certain way - the filler was incorporated into an original fuel filler assembly including the cap so from the outside it looks factory, I did that myself before the install, the tank went across the back behind the front seats, the most practical spot for it to go. I opted for the more expensive hose which is reusable unlike copper line, plus if you do any off road driving the copper can rub through and crack with stress.

Tomorrow I'll mount the switch and the gauge which were left unmounted because I wasn't sure where I wanted them. They also left out the windscreen washer bottle because the convertor is mounted there. If I can find somewhere to put it I will otherwise it will be left out (don't really need it).

I'll post some photos if you're interested.

I'm really happy with it so far.

G'day pfillery :)

I too would be interested in some pics, the fill set up in particular,I usually get my gas work and tunes done by Mike Bushnell at Caboolture,
"Dual Fuel" as my 85 RRC is on the stuff, I get about 5klms per litre, but that is a 3.5 V8 carby model.

A friend had a S3 LWB on gas with the tank mounted between the chassis rails at the rear,(where the S/wagon fuel tank goes) was a nice thing to drive

cheers
