Apparently any D4 tv unit will plug in. This is a link to the article about what unit to use from ffrr

fullfatrr.com - View topic - Digital TV Upgrade (http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic1868.html?highlight=digital+tv&start=45)

the info about the D4 TV unit starts on page 4. Well worth considering to import, given local costings.

Guys, has anyone in Oz tried a UK import DTV tuner on an L322?
Is their DTV system the same?

I have an MY05 and the Analogue tuner is 99% useless, would like a cheap upgrade if possible.

UK DTV standard is indeed the same, a PC DTV tuner we brought over when we emigrated works fine out here so I don't see any reason why a Rangie one wouldn't.

Cheers,

Al

But do you get High Definition Digital capability or just Standard Definition Digital. My $100 GPS has Digital TV but it is only SD Digital so I miss out on quite a few channels.

Really? I would have thought it simply tunes them down to SD - I thought the channel could still be found by a SD tuner.....

A household SD set top box will not display HD - likewise the same applies to computer TV tuner sticks - SD will only display SD and to get HD you need a higher spec computer and a different tuner stick. Most aftermarket car radios with TV are only SD.

You car system may very well be HD noting Aust is one of the few countries that specified HD as the TV digital standard.

Just checked in our 08, the only HD channel it sees is SBS HD and when tuned to that it gives audio but just black screen with no picture.

None of the other HD channels appear in the auto created listing.

So yeah, looks like the tuner is not HD compatible.

Thanks for confirming.

I'm just about to buy a DTV upgrade from Wiggs in the UK on FFRR.
Think its out of a D4 but compatible.

Looking forward to it.

CBH25,

How did you get on with the Wiggs tuner? What was the final cost?

What year did they put digital tv tuners in RR?

I am fairly sure I found a few at the wreckers yesterday in '07/'08 write-offs. They were OE hybrid tuners, with the product code: "UH42-19C063-BA".

I probably would have grabbed one on the spot, and gambled that it got the digital signal, except they were asking an unbelievable $950 for the used unit! That's more than double the cost of the Wiggs tuners in the UK! Looks like my money is going overseas afterall...

Sorry gents, I havent been able to get the DTV upgrade yet from UK.

Finances got in the way (as well as a new Auto transmission......)

Further online research and physically looking at the tuner fitted to my Vogue showed it to be a hybrid (analogue and digital) tuner. Reading the manual showed me how to set the digital system for Australia, now I have all the Adelaide digital TV stations tuned in and working.

Well played BigJon.. Few extra $$ saved for some more mods.. I noticed an upgraded Bluetooth receiver on FFRR which might be worth a look ;)

I changed my 2004 L322 (BMW non-touch screen) to digital TV yesterday. And one gets digital radio channels too - but it's mono.

I bought the PIBUS PTV kit from Melbourne and a digital TV tuner from China. See PTV - Digital TV interface board for BMW (http://pibus.info/tv/)

Don't buy the PTV board from the same bloke in China who sells the DTV - he's ripping off the Aussie who designed the unit.

The hardest part was drilling two holes for the antenna connectors and two holes to fit the USB socket (for playing movies from a USB stick).
