View Full Version : parking sensors total death-rear wheel carrier

Hi folks; have total electrical failure reported on both front and rear parking sensors after fitting of rear wheel carrier on my D4; the front ones went bit wobbly after fitting of a Big T bull bar about a month ago - very sensitive to even light drizzle on the sensors - but now all fail with the advent of the wheel carrier.

One sensor was disabled by the wheel carrier - done by a national franchise, and standard wheel carrier apparently a common install and recommended by the said chain of shops, and featured on a D4 in their cattledog.

dispatched to the stealer now for full computer analysis and hopefully rectification, no doubt at a price....

Anybody had an experience like this?

You may have read my recent thread on the installation of my rear wheel carrier and the sensors.

I had mine fitted by OL and we mucked around for hours trying to get the sensors going.

I tried a soft start on the ecu by turning the key on and off 3 times b4 starting and that didn't get them going...the mechanics were baffled.

Then 2 days later they start working by themselves!

You may just need a reset

Graeme - mine also done by OL. And ditto on the mucking around. So, will lie low for a day or two, then fire the beast up again and have everything crossed.

Thanks anyway for your response - at least I know I'm not out here and alone, again...

I'll post an update.

I had a carrier fitted by OL and same problem. Ended up pulling the fuse.
Now, stranded in Alice with a complete computer failure, awaiting a total re-build of ECU & all other electronics. Related? I wonder.

Makes me think twice about fitting a rear wheel carrier (was going to be my next project) - maybe I'll just stick the spare up on the roof rack.....:eek:

Hi All,

I've had a Rear Wheel Carrier+LR Tank fitted by OL on my MY11 D4, 2.7 and have had no problems. (Touch Wood)

At the OL outlet I used the owner has and uses a D3 and all the gear he sells installed and before I did get an install done enquired as to how many had been done on D3/D4's in his work shop.

I'd be most interested to be made aware of the OL Outlet so I don't get any work done there.

A friend recently had a LR fuel tank installed by another OL outlet only to experience on his first filling of the 100l tank - fuel in the top and straight out the bottom. Servo driveway closed, FESA and no way to stop 100 fuel gushing out.

Something very basic going wrong here at some business premises!!! "Sure mate, sure we can do that, no worries mate" - anything for a sale.

I have commented on this previously. I have a rear wheel carrier sold out of OL outlets. I fitted it myself and a Mitch hitch. I disabled the two centre sensors. ( rubber pads, did not touch the sensors or wiring ) I also wired in an LED stop/tail/turn light to the tow wiring loom. Touch wood no issues.

I obviously don't know how the wheel carriers concerned in these posts were installed, but it is/was not rocket science. IMHO it would be prudent to wait on definitive data before arcing up, given the D4's tendency to throw up faults from as little as a low battery.

Hope it all works out for everyone concerned.

I have a LR tank and a 4X4 Intelligence RWC fitted by Ritter

The sensor is relocated to the swing arm

All 4 sensors work normally with this instalation. No problems

+1 for the 4x4 Intelligence carrier, Fitted myself and apart from needing to file some new notches in the cutout for the sensor so that it had the correct orientation no problems.
