I've just acquired a '99 Defender which came with all sorts of goodies including a Nanocom, which I was informed by the vendor needs registerig and activating. I haven't had an opportunity to have a play yet, but is the Nanocom still supported and if so, what the hell do I do?

Is the Nanacom unit new or is it second hand (previously registered)?
If new just go to the Nanocom site and follow the prompts. If you have gotten a previously activated or registered unit you may need to contact them. You can also download the operation manual from there.
:: Nanocom :: (http://web.nanocom.it/default_i.cfm)

Anyway welcome and good luck.

If you have gotten a previously activated or registered unit you may need to contact them.

I went through the process a couple of weeks ago when I picked up a Nanocom I off eBay.

There is no need to contact support even if it has been previously registered. Nanocom/BBS don't link the units to registered owners so all you need to do is go to :: Area Riservata - Nanocom :: (http://web.nanocom.it/registrazione_i.cfm) and enter your details and the product id# for the Nanocom.

You'll get a password emailed within a few minutes which will allow you to log in to the reserved area of the site and access any necessary codes.

cheers

I now have the unit registered and functional, just need to play with it and see how it flies. I haven't loaded the software to my laptop yet as my primary HDD is failing and needs replacing (new 640Gb disk on its way), but will be delving into the mysteries of defender diagnostics ASAP.

Due to the difficulty obtaining/borrowing/loaning a Nanocom - I searched around and have found this....

ELM327 Bluetooth OBD-II Wireless Transceiver Dongle - Free Shipping - DealExtreme (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/elm327-bluetooth-obd-ii-wireless-transceiver-dongle-16921)

If you have an Android phone, then download the free app from 'Torque' (Google it) and then interrorgate, clear and read your fault codes

or -

If you have an iPhone, download the "Dash Commander" app and voile! for less than $100 you will have a fully up-to-date diagnostic tool at your disposal that works on all or any 1 of your vehicles.

It works brilliantly and has all of the functions of a Nanocom with more!!

Cheers! ;)

Catmatt,

What model LR are you using the interface with? The ODBII engine ECU coverage on the TD5 is extremely limited, while the V8 is reasonably good.

Regardless of which engine is fitted you aren't going to have any success accessing the ECU's for SLABS/ABS, Autogear Box, Air Bag, ACE, or Body Control Unit using a generic interface and an app like Dash Commander.

You can pick up a used Nanocom One for cheap if you are vigilant (I paid about $200 for mine), and I suspect that the release of the Evo2 will see a lot more Nanocom One's hit the market in the coming months as owners are tempted to upgrade.

cheers

Cattmatt, contact PaulP38a who is in Canberra and is also the distributor for Blackbox Solutions.

He has just received the new Nanocom Evo2 which will now do V8 and auto trans so you might be able to be a guineapig which he is looking for! :bigthumb:

If you are a cheapskate, like me, the recent firmware updates for the Nanocom One gives you the same level of diagnostic capability as the Evo's. The advantage of the Evo's is the built in graphic display and improved form factor of the Evo 2. If you have the cash to spare then the Evo 2 is definitely the way to go :)
