Anyone have any idea on why both would be on?

One reason is if you have a faulty wheel speed sensor/wiring harness then both abs and tc will illuminate as they both get their information from the wheel speed sensor.

You are absolutely correct, when the Polyairs were fitted apparently (according to the dealer) the ABS sensor line was not re-fitted correctly and was caught by the spring causing a short.

Of course they dont sell the parts seperately (only a kit) which is $1,500.00

When I get it back from the stealer I will be taking up to Polyair for their opinion and hopefully rectification.

Hi chook73,

As Lorryman100 says, it could well be a faulty wheel sensor or wiring harness causing a short or open circuit. This will log a fault code in the ABS ECU, which needs to be cleared, and re-cleared until the cause of the fault is rectified.

Do you have access to a portable diagnostic scan tool? You would then be able to read and clear the fault codes in the ABS ECU. You would also be able to read live data, which together with the fault codes, will direct you to the problem, which may be something different to what the dealer states.

Regrettably, dealers tend to focus on the most profitable issue to repair.

Thanks lrt, apparently it's the wiring harness which is only available as a kit. I get the car back tomorrow and will check it out then.

Hope it gets sorted by the company who caused it but if not then:
If it is just a short due to localised damage I would think you may be able to repair the suspect wiring harness as this is most likely what the dealer would do anyway with a harness repair kit. If you go down this road of doing it yourself test each sensors harness with a DMM at the plug and sensor end for wheel speed sensor resistance the correct nominal value is 950±80 ohms. This will tell you which cables need replacing so a solder repair can be carried out. And after it is done you need to do a resistance check again to ensure that the repair does not offer more resistance than the nominal 950±80 ohms. Hope this makes sense and it can save you a few pounds, sorry dollars.:whistling:

EDIT: If you have a nanocom evolution check the nominal voltages at each wheel sensor in the live data screen as this will tell you which of the four wheel speed sensors is registering the fault, from memory I think the voltage should be about 2.2/2.3 volts.

Thanks Iain for letting me know. LRT

P.S. The Bearmach Hawkeye handheld diagnostic tool made by Omitec will tell you live data for each wheel sensor. LRT
