I'm about to fit new ABS guard (wing) side panels to my Defender and get a couple of 'character dents' sorted at the same time. I'm considering a repaint, same colours - red with a white roof - and wonder if anyone has any recommendations on good paintshops in the Brisbane area. This means that the painting will need to be over both aluminium and ABS.

Also, any ideas on what the cost might be. I got one quote ($4,000) which seems high and ideally would like a yardstick to compare.

BTW, the ABS panels are not available in Australia as far as I know. I brought these back with me from the UK.

Thanks

Hi, the cost of a repaint depends on what you are getting done , example will it be a bare metal reaspray or just a rub back then a respray, also what is going to be removed , for a good job, so you wont see that it is a respray you need the glass removed that is all the windows and rubbers out, also strip all lights door handles grill etc. Some "cheaper methods" is just to mask up these areas but their is always a faint gap between the new paint job and the masked areas. Also door trims can be removed and inside of door sprayed as well, another factor affecting cost is how many coats of colour and top coat are being applied. the more colour and top coats the better the depth of colour but once again more dollars.
Get a wriiten quote of excatly what the paint job involves, number of coats of paint and top coat, what is being stripped, inside doors etc, also what time frame for the job as this can vary greatly if you dont have a time frame for the veichle to be completed in.
Who ever you go with, most people are happy for you to have a look through there premisies and their work before you decide to go with them.
Make sure you feel comfortable with them before proceeding.
I know that this seems a lot to take in but the more knowledge you have the more comfortable you will be with the spray painter.
Good luck
Allan

In actuality $4000 is not too bad. I would actually query why it was not more than that.......

As previously described. You need to know what you are paying for....and make sure you get 3 to 4 quotes........
