Greetings all

I have some issues with my brake lights on my 09 Defender please read the attached files as I have presented to my dealer.

the latest outcome was it was blamed on feed back from my trailer brake controller which they now have disconnected. the controller is a Tekonsha Prodigy. This controller has been on the car from day one and has worked without any problems

Km; +/- 3000 and 17200

Leaving home from a cold start after about 50 -100 mts the engine made some distinctive noises for a few seconds as if it was starving of fuel, the engine management light came on.
After the noise disappeared the engine seems to be running fine but did not want to rev above 1500 rpm.
This stayed like that even after proceeding for a couple of hundred meters.
I then switched the engine off, left the car and locked and unlocked the doors with the remote.
Started the engine and all was well again albeit the amber light stayed on for a while and then reset itself.

Sounds like the landy entered limp mode due to the High Pressure rail control valve sticking and causing high rail pressure ( engine noise gets very clattery before pressure is relieved!), which trips a diagnostic, relieves the rail pressure causing you to see an engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) light on with restricted performance and P1169 and/or P0089 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This is a know Land rover service action recall ref QO68: Engine Lacks Power and Malfunction Indication Lamp (MIL) On. Also the MIL light will reset after 3 engine cycles as long as the Tested DTC P1169/P0089 does not re occur, the ECU will record the tested DTC until it is manually cleared. I had this fault about 7 months ago and the full Fuel rail was replaced under warranty, however it happened again recently and I just cleared the dtc with a scangauge. Point to note as well is that my landy has a remap and this P1169 only re occurred when I reinstalled the original fuel map file as the landy was going into the dealers for some warranty work. It has not occurred with the remap fuel file

I know now that it is the brake controller. It has a build in relay that when it fails(sticks) back feeds power to the brake lights and instrument panel.
Problem solved.
