Just wondering what sort of life people are seeing from their D3 batteries?

Ours refused to start today for the first time ever, with a scary engine management fault light and error messaging pointing to the gearbox whcihy it locked in Park ! Left it 45 mins to reset everything and it started OK, and took it straight to LR to check the log, and the only entry pointed to low battery voltage!!

Anyway, the car is 4 years old, and LR reckong 3-4 years, so sounds about due but just wondered what others were getting.

I have a quote of $300+ fitted from LR or $187 from my usually battery supplier plus $20 for fitting for effectively the same battery (I'm told) - again, is this about right?

I would say that four years is pretty good and about average - actually maybe above average.

In my case, it was a few days short of the four year end of warranty period when my dealer announced I needed a new battery. I think the shop people had left it outside and it did not start in the morning.

The phone call surprised me a bit and when I finally said that is a good idea, "I guess it is a warranty item?", the enthusiasm was not quite the same.

Once warranty was over, I then installed the Traxide dual battery system as the 3 reacts poorly to a weak battery and is helpless with a dead one.

While for the most part, here is not quite as empty as Western Australia, in the winter, we do not get 3 days grace when marooned; more like 3 hours.

Hi Jeff, as bbyer posted, thats about average.

The price your LR dealer quoted you is not.

I had me D3 battery replaced by the dealer about 2 years back and it was $185 fitted. I can not see how they can justify a 60% increase in price, especially when the Australian dollar is so high.

Just had my battery replaced in my D3 by "Ritters" - it was almost five years old so I'd rather be safe than sorry - it cost $240:00.

OK, confirmed as knackered by my local battery place, and replaced (Fitted) for $187 so all in all, not too bad. Thanks for the info - lucky we caught this on a cold morning, as it could have been much worse if it stranded her somewhere!

....about 2 years back and it was $185 fitted. .. Was that an identical "factory fitted" replacement ?
