Nanocom I Black Screen of Death

My Nanocom I has the black screen of death - all the display characters are black on power up - no light or text. I got hold of one of those USB programmers from Mattia to try and reflash it. USB thingy connected ok but the flash load just hung. Any suggestions before I toss it into my junk pile?

Did you try rerunning the flash loader after it hung? Unless you get a successful flash load the Nanocom is unlikely to work.

BTW is this one of the new USB programmers that Colin has just announced in The Verandah?

I tried running the flash loader a few times - it hung each time. I was running Win 7 - does it have to be a particular version of Windows to work? The usb loader is an old one Mattia sent me to try to fix my problem. I might give the new one a go.
