Morning Everyone.

My FM/AM aerial has snapped (2000 Td5 Defender) and I am looking at getting a new one.

Is there a standard part, do you have to replace the whole unit? If so, how on earth do you remove the old unit?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From memory you have to take the radio out and disconnect the aerial from the back. Then pull it through to the guard.

I replaced mine with a mobile one flexible aerial. I can unscrew if need and I get better reception. Also if I snap the aerial I just replace the whip no need to retrace the cable.

Tip once you gain access to the back of the radio I'd cut the fitting off and then tape the "new" cable to it and pull them both through. A bit of detergent on the cable also helps it pull through.

Awesome thanks for the advice.

All good to get the aerial out the back of the radio but how do you remove the mount from the right wing? The access is very restricted by the brake servo! Can only just touch it with my fingertips, does it unscrew or what!?

Cheers

I "think" it unscrews from the "top" this allows the aerial to drop down into the guard and then you remove it through the gap between the open door and the guard. Or once undone you simply drop it to a positoin where it clears all the other cables.

Is a bit of a job. Long time since I did mine.

Instead of unplugging the cable from the radio, you can cut it in a convenient spot and put another socket on it from Jaycar or similar. Then when you put the new aerial in you can plug it in there.
The old one will undo from on top of the aerial/guard and then is extracted from the inner guard somehow.

Remove (unscrew) the blank air-intake in the middle of the wheel guard. All the room in the world to get your hand in there to remove and replace the aerial. Like others mentioned, it unscrews from the top. Set of pointy-nose pliers in the two notches does the trick.

Didnt think of that! Thanks a lot!

Seems I have located an aerial also, Alberts Car Stereos seem to have something similar to the GME aerial talked about below.
