Hi - apologies for a complete rookie question but i have just picked up my new 110 & found that the stereo aux plug is covered up. The manual details it as a feature as does the LR website. Any guidance please?

I believe it is a UK option not available in Aus, I turfed mine and got a better head as I went through the same thing.

Then buy yourself a nice modern system from JB that has hands free blue tooth and takes usb for your cd's, and / or has an aux jack for your ipod !
I did, and it was a top bit of money spent.

Also, throw the factory speakers as far as you can as well.......Upgrade to a nice little set in the front and then bomb out and modify the back panels to accept some 6" stuff. Out the back you may suffer from some vibration so pack up the space with a little sound proofing and modify the panel that the speakers sit in so that they cant vibrate..........

Yes, the auxiliary input is a UK spec item and we only get a small piece of blank plastic to remind us that we are too much of a far flung tiny and inconvenient market for Landrover to bother giving us any options like that luxury. Besides, who would have thought we would actually have iPods in the colonies?

As others have said, ditch the factory unit and pop in a reasonably well equipped aftermarket one. And spring for a small powered sub-woofer if you really want to hear the music. Speaker holes in the Defender are just too small to fit anything decent and the rear ones are just too far away so you need a sub to boost things.

Thanks for the advice. I've pulled out the factory one & have a new head unit to put in. Have others purchased an adapter to hook the LR cables up to the ISO plug, if so any reco's on where to buy. Or is it a case of hard wiring? Thanks

comon... it's a defender, not a commodore, stereo wiring adapter, not that I could find but that would have be useful.

While your fiddling, a small sub really ads to the system.
I added a DNA sub from a local supplier, and bought Clarion stuff from RYDA.com Other used JVC subs but I don't think they are around anymore.

Do a few searches as there is some really good ideas around.

In the end I replaced the two fronts with 3 way 4" and added 2 more to the hood lining just behind my head. Fitted some 6" behind the rear seats along with the sub. Now it goes hard, so hard in fact I have to turn it down because my ears start aching when I feel like rockin.

So if the general consensus is throw it out, (to which I agree) then what did you all replace it with? Lets see photos of your head units and speaker set-ups.

Here is mine, a JVC AVX-77 but I'm still running stock speakers for the moment.

Thanks all - after a fair bit of mis-information from the local Autobarn, the power of google informed me that LR use the ISO standard - back to Auto barn the next day & $19 later I had a harness that went straight from the LR sockets to the new Kenwood head unit - all rather simple. Thanks for the replies - will have to start planning the subby & speaker upgrades now that I have the iPod working.:)
