i parked my d1 the other week, ran inside to grab some things and when i came back it had stalled and would not start - its a 96, v8 auto...

i for the life of me cannot figure out what is wrong with her, and id just like to get it started so i can move it from my front lawn and into a garage where she can be looked at properly :/

Firstly remove the main serpentine fan belt and see if the engine rotates. A siezed alternator will stop rotation pretty quickly:eek: It has happened before.

Diagnosis 101. What do you mean? Starter not turning? No spark? Out of fuel? Fuel pump not working? Out of battery? Have you tested for the basics first? I have found looking under the bonnet or ringing for a competent looker-atter to be more successful than running for the keyboard.

k, its turning - theres batt, theres spark, there is fuel, just doesnt seem to be getting to the engine, fuel pump seems to be working though, so there must be a blockage somewhere :/

Blockages are unlikely. Lift the dissy cap and look for condensation. Not uncommon with winter weather, a little bit of warmth evaporates the moisture deep inside the dissy and recondenses inside the cap. Also the rotor button might have burnt through. Check for spark at a plug lead.

Cases of rising damp can be alleviated by leaving a fan heater or halogen floodlight under the bonnet for an hour or so with the cap off.

If the fuel is not getting to the engine a removed spark plug or two will be totally dry.

A bit of aerostart/start-ya-barstid into the throttle housing (intake hose off first) will tell if the spark is reaching its destination.
