Td5 lovers et al,

The 130 had been giving trouble starting over the past few months. Nothing on the ECU or oil in looms etc.

The truck is 7yrs old with 120K kms on it so invested in new pump through Craddocks (took 8 days from UK).

Took the rear tub off Friday and changed out pump.

Handy hints:
1. There was a large build up of sand and grit under the large locking ring. Despite several thumps to dislodge, once the ring was being lifted up, you could see the 'ring' of debris' just waiting to fall in!!

2. The rubber seal on new pump is fiddly. I found once the pump is sitting loosely in position (before compressing the springs), work to lower flange under the tank lip. Lubricate pump sides with fuel as it allows the pump to slide into position without dislodging the seal...before pushing down on seal, have the locking ring already at the top of pump unit.

3. With the 130, run the vehicle checking for leaks, before refitting tub.

4. Again with 130, personally it was easier to remove the tub than drop the fuel tank, as I didn't have the energy or inclination to drain tank and roll around under the vehicle having mud and dirt in your face!!! Plus I then pressure washed the rear chassis and sprayed with WD40.

Rear light clusters and pull through harnesses.
7x 17mm bolts along rear of tub
2x 6 or 8mm bolts for the rear mud flap bracket
4x17mm bolts with nyloc nuts at front of tub
Fuel filler cover (5 + 4 screws)
Filler and breather pipes.

Then lift off - I used normal rachet straps to lift 2-3 inches then another line to swing tub back and up. Rolled vehicle forward and set to work.

Old Pump
I donated the pump to science and pulled it apart. The final stage filter is a fine plastic mesh which was just caked in crap. I did think that it could have been cleaned and pressed back into service, but it was 7 years old and probably best binned after 200 million revs!
