is that lean angle even possible????

Casey Stoner leans his MotoGP bike at 1,000 frames per second — Autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/13/casey-stoner-leans-his-motogp-bike-at-1-000-frames-per-second/#continued)

How good is that ? :D

Did you notice he's sideways through the corner too. Nice.

[edit] Great interview with CS on technical aspects of riding the current bikes here http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2011/Jul/110707-stoner-hrc.htm

Back in 1967, I believe that this famous photo of Mike Hailwood on his 6 cylinder 250 Honda was considered to set the standard for lean in a corner.

I suspect that one important reason that today's bike lean further is the tyre compounds.

BTW, a few of the fella's on a Moto GP forum can't believe how relaxed his upper body is in this shot.
They can't work out how he does it.

Yeah, that lean angle with the rear wheel in the air is not hard to achieve. Once you learn the mechanics of the bike's traction on the track, you can brake quite deep into a corner, with weight on the front wheel, you can still turn the bike.

The difficulty is that if the rider isn't smooth, he will either overwhelm the traction on the front, or highside when the back wheel realigns itself.

On my 1000cc race bike, under braking, the back will wander from side to side a foot in either direction at most.

A couple of comments on motomatters revolved around how his arms seem relaxed and legs are splayed while possibly still heavily on the picks.

Always loved watching the bikes all crossed up under brakes.
The Go-Show was good for that in superbikes almost every corner of every race.

Someone else mentioned that if going deeper under brakes was a World Championship, Barros would have more trophies than anyone ;)
