D4 Logic 7 Question

Hi All,

I've been looking at getting a D4 for the past few months and was lucky enough to take one out for a 3.0 HSE out for a drive yesterday. The car was fitted with Logic 7 but I was quite underwhelmed by the sound quality. I did have a quick look at the sound settings using the tone button but all I could see was Bass, Treble and Sub. Logic 7 was also there as an option (which was switched on) but I was expecting that it would have something like an equalizer function or something else that would allow me to tweak the sound a little. Does anybody know if there is a Logic 7 sub menu that I've missed?

Hi Ben,

From memory your correct the adjustments on the Logic7 system is quite limited. It does sound very good when listening to a CD rather then it does when listening to the radio.

I hate to say it but the Harmon Kardon system in the D2a HSE to me anyway sounds as good if not better then the Logic7 system in the D3.

I think the sound may depend upon the radio station. Obviously FM sounds better than AM, and a CD probably better than either.

I think however that FM radio stations tweak their transmitted sound differently depending upon the listening market they are after.

Yes, there are very few setting re sound adjustment, and I was surprised that there was no equalizer setup, but regardless, I regard my OEM Logic 7 system as like bringing the orchestra along with you.

I think I would listen again or take a CD that I knew along next time.

My understanding is that a (genuine) CD is the best source for sound, as there has been no 'compression', as there has in Apple products and other MP players.

However, there can be huge differences in the sound quality of different CDs, as in band and label....I guess how well the mixing was done in the first place.

Take a CD that sounds great on your home system and give it a shot in the D4.

Also, motor vehicles are not accoustically friendly at the best of times....so you have to bear that in mind too.

I use an Ipod in mine......and the outcome deffinately varies from track to track, album to album, etc. At it's best I think it's pretty good.

Thanks for the responses. I was actually using my iPhone as the demo I was driving had an iPod connector cable. I think I'd just opt for the auxiliary input and control everything from the iPhone. Good suggestion on bringing a CD along next time, think I'll do that.

I've just gone and read the whole owners manual online, must be getting close to purchasing now :)

Agreed Celtoid when I have used the ipod with the Logic7 system it only sounded a bit better then the radio, when using CD's the sound is much better.

Same thing with the various internal shapes of various vehicles and how that effects the sound a stereo makes. The vehicle I remember that had the best accoustics was a Alfa GTV 2000 that I owned when I was 20, it had a crap Sanyo stereo but it sounded great in that particular car.

I still reckon the D2's Harmon Kardon system sounds as good as the D3/4's Logic7 system.

I think I'd just opt for the auxiliary input and control everything from the iPhone.
I started using the aux port to listen to music from my phone but changed to MP3 CDs because sometimes the D4's phone couldn't be answered. I don't know if that was the fault of the phone or the base audio's blue-tooth or if the problem has been rectified with a software update. The CD sounds much better anyway.

If it is possible to tell the difference between CD, radio and MP3 then the system must be good.
On my OEM (low line) before a change in speakers and head unit it all sounded the same, now I really notice the difference even different MP3s (lossless) there is a difference in sound.
